Then I put the boiled linseed over the stain still got a few coats to do but so far been close to 5 hours

Sand along the grain direction, and work up thru the grits. 1st grit is most important, rest is just refinement.
Also, do some google/YouTube searches for card scraper, it is what they used before sandpaper.
I got the motivation from larry potterfield haha. to rub the stain in I used 240 sand paper, he explains it in his vid. I have been coating the boiled linseed oil on with a rag
Polish with your bare hand till it burns(rub hard till it dries) then another coat.

I sat mine in the car on a sunny day while i was at work....
come home and the stock was nice and hot. rubbed in by hand and now it shines. Its been a year or intermittent coats but its nicely coloured and shiney now
Just in case you dont know Toby, and this is NOT bullshit. DO NOT put used oiled rags into a binliner or the like. Let them dry out before you bin them. Linseed oil has the ability to self combust if it heats in confined space. My bro in UK found out the hard way when his van went up in flames overnight :(

It burnt my hand a few times in doing it but it looks alright, the camera doesn't do it justice. On revision if I was to do it again (my next one) I will spend a shit load more time on the sanding to make sure it is smooth and no marks are in it. There was a few marks that showed up I didn't pick up on while I ironed out the other dents. It's not the best looking stock I fucked up the end big time but if anyone has a parkerhale they can have it. Not 100% sure if it is parkerhale it has alpine written on it. just the stock, I need that action. Has no butt pad on it and probably needs to be cut out a bit more in the barrel channel

yep ive seen this happen, building a new multi million dollar houise, painters l labourer left oiled rages on top of the stack of cement bags overnight, they had combusted in the night burnt away, lucky they were on cement bags, not on some timber or the rubbish ,

Hey Toby that hand rubbing really did bring a shine up a. Top work there, bit of a bugger about the marks on grip but you will know for next time

It's going to be cut back and trimmed to look like the German sporter stocks from the 1920's, short fore piece, slim top line and tiny check piece.
