Sako Bavarian stock mods for a more classic look

Beggars can’t be choosers- I would have liked to buy the right kind of stock but was short on funds. I also like a good project. This Sako was going too cheap to ignore.
After several hours of just looking at it I came to the conclusion that it could be remodeled into a more classic stock with British styling. I also realised Sako probably don’t make a rifle that I’d be happy to leave as is- they use way too much wood on these things. (Think 4x2)
I’m off to South Africa for Safari in July and wanted a rifle I’d be happy to keep after the trip and hand down to my boys.

    What I started with:

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

She’s a .270. I’m going to use Briwax ‘Brown Mahogany’ stain then I’ll finish it with Birchwood Casey sealer.

An African hardwood called ‘Wenge’ I think. Super hard- I had the orbital disc sander with the 40 grit to shape it. It goes pretty dark once sealed, but is a bit more interesting than ebony tips due to the figure imo.

As a fan of the Sako Bavarian my initial response was to have you shot for desecrating that rifle.

But you have done a wonderful job and I think Improved the design, maybe Sako should copy it and come out with an English model...
