    On the DC side of things make sure screws are done up tight and if a thread strips replace the unit...these photos are of burn outs caused ( I believe) from either not tight enough or striped threads.

    There is no standard house wiring but they usually use 1mm or 1.5mm for lights and 2.5mm for wall sockets.
    As others have said on here low voltages means high current so big is good. You can’t control what someone will plug into a lighter socket so yes 2.5mm for sockets with a 10amp fuse. A 100w spot light will draw 8amps at 12.5v.

    P.S. there are lots of 12v LED lights on AliExpress that would work for you. I wouldn’t recommend a standard bayonet light fitting. As I said before who knows what someone will plug in?
    It need to be clear to anyone that it’s 12v.
