If you go with a med action I would go 6.5 Creedmoor.
I would go for a Tikka superlight in .260 cut to 18" or leave at 20" either way you with fling the 143 at over 2800.
The long action let's you seat out to be close to the rifleing, even in my sako carbon light I have to seat to mag length where as a Creedmoor would let you get out near the lands.

Just to tempt those who want something "off the shelf"

H&J Outdoor world in Frankton (currently in closing down mode) had a Kimber walnut/stainless (1 of 1000 I believe) in 6.5 crudmore "on sale". Don't quite me but the price was around the $2200 mark if I recall correctly. Quite a nice rifle.

There is always some twit who'll want to change the spec .. but anyway here we go

Does it have to be a 260

    Tikka Superlight.
Stock of choice or Bed .
Leupy or Swaro 3 or similar in 4x14 or 3x12 etc
    Atec or DPT suppressor
Barrel chop at 20 if you like but...
    Run 130gr EDL, 129SST, 140sst, 143EDLX, 130 Serria G/Changer, 130/135/140 Berger.
    and the kicker
    6.5x55
Cheaper Lapua brass and you can use the extra case capacity in the x55 brass to seat out further and stoke it up in the Modern Tikka action.

    Just my take

    {Or just buy a Finnlight}

nothing is set in stone main parameters are must be ultra light, suppressed and capable of taking red deer out to 350-400 yards
hence doing the homework now and seeing what others have done before I spend any coin

Sell the 7RM and build a light weight 6.5 prc! One gun to rule them all.
Or buy a second hand kimber in 260

yeah nah, I like the idea of horses for courses and for long range stuff I'd much prefer the rem mag.

interesting all the options coming out of the wood work, keep em coming

    260 Carbonlite. Sorted.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

I remember mentioning a sako with a 12 hundred dollar cheaper option than the Invisible Carbonlite.

    Yeah Finn
I have one in x55 and got one through my Local in 260 for a mate who, while slightly delusional as to whats best, is still a mate.

Naturally Danny I'm talking previous, not sure what's about now
I know I couldn't get a hunter in 30 06 post lockdown and they tried to fob me off on a 270 for christ's sake .. Shudder.

If I find a 260 I will have a 708 finlight for sale if the original owner doesn't want it back

It's the cal Iv always wanted
When I run out of 243 bullets I'll rebarrel to either 260 or 6.5creed in one of my montanas
I'd say tikka off the shelf would be the safe bet, just depends if you want something specific like an sako 85
I'm a real fan of Kimber's and a 6.5creed hunter barrelled action to drop into my montanas carbon stock isn't much more than the cost to rebarrel, so I'm half heartedly on the look out for one of those. 243 just works for me so I'm in no rush.
