    Tikka M55 .243 extractor issues

    I was given a Tikka M55 .243 by my ex girlfriends old man (hes a good bugger) and have finally gotten around to putting some work into it.

    He mentioned that the casings were being extracted into the underside of the scope causing them to drop back in and jam the gun.

    Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

    See the video below

    You might have to train yourself to rotate the rifle over on its side when unloading to avoid it dropping on top of the next round in the mag.
    I did hear somewhere that some brass have different rim thicknesses and can have an effect on the way they eject on a plunger / extractor bolt like this Tikka. Maybe try a few different brands if you can.

    looking up dr google. You aren't the first. Bit of it out there mentioning the extractor kicking the case up because of its position. Like it from the factory and seemed to be the OEM answer usually is that the rings are to low. Mount the scope higher and it should be fine.
    I don't really accept that as that would piss me off. Hopefully someone pops up with a gunsmithing fix.
    I would be interested to hear it.

    I've owned 3 x M55's all in .243 and still have one. The one I still have I bought in 1979 and it's on its third barrel. I've never encountered the problem that you have but tried ejecting an empty case several times at different speeds tonight; by opening the bolt very slowly I managed to get the empty case to drop back into the magazine well, in other instances it contacted the scope on the way out but it ejected without any complication. This doesn't necessarily mean that your rifle doesn't have a problem, but hopefully it's a comparison of some value. I've used Norma, Federal, Winchester, Remington factory ammunition and reloaded the same with no memory of any problem as depicted. Rifle currently has Talley medium 30 mm rings but through most of its life had the 1" steel OEM Tikka's just like yours.

    @Strider and @bushferretnz

    Look up how to 'tune' a Sako style extractor.

    Basically you take the extractor out and file the underside that grips the extraction groove/rim of the case until the ejection angle is changed from 90 degrees to around 60-45 degrees.

    Another thing to check before altering is that the ejector is moving properly and not getting jammed, easy to remove this and clean out the recess.
