    Webley project

Picked up a single barrel model Webley 100 16g a few months ago and very pleased how it shoots and the action is very nice the cocking feature also acts like a safety so recently I sold my rimfire and decided to look for a donor single barrel shotgun to make a single shot .22, I saw a parts gun in chch for $100 and it was another Webley so went and had a look
It was in a bit of a sorry state but action looked good so asked dealer if he would take $50 and yes he agreed, nice one.
Got in touch with one of the forum guys who has Anschutz barrels old but unused and got that off him for $40 so started
To do this project as the Webley 12g barrel was in a poor state so didn’t feel too bad about modifying the gun to take this new barrel. Gun cleaned up nicely the walnut stock drank heaps of my mix juice and is looking good, the action I stripped down and it all cleaned up good and only thing missing was the firing spring, not bad for a parts gun.
Turned up offset insert to hold the barrel and modified extractor come ejector and reblued . Action just a good clean and it’s
Case hardened so didn’t bother bluing that, one of the guys on the forum offered to lend me his .22lr reamer but I had one somewhere but after lol the searching decided to make another as might come in handy in the future.
Just need to decide what to do about sights, scope, open or small red dot, time will tell so now just need to get out there and give it an airing.Attachment 281309Attachment 281310

Just nice to get an old decent made gun back to being useful. Just have a couple of Webleys that no one wanted. $100 for the 16g pre ww1
And $90 now it’s modified for this one which must be over 50 years old at least. It shows I’m a bit of a tight git.

Might have to make up some peep sights, I’m also just having it extracting the case as I don’t want them going everywhere, the firing pin spring might need adjusting slightly to make it a bit stronger but will see.
I was pleased with the single shot Baikals in .22 and this Webley action feels very nice with the cocking lever nice and easy position for the thump as opposed to the button on the Ruskie and easy to put back to safe mode, I always have gun open until I spot quarry so I’m doubly
Cautious in that regard. This gun would have been a great option for a nice .22 hornet barrel and would only take a couple of days to do, next time eh!

Size: 3.61 MB Just have to take a bit off front sight and all done and all under the $100 budget I set myself. Still might be on the lookout for a red dot for it but will see.

This barrel was fitted offset so the firing pin hit the rim of the bullet so it wasn’t possible unless I bored the barrel out to give clearance but I have done another previous project on a Baikal and I offset the firing pin so yes it would be possible
But still not much space unless boring or drilling barrel out a bit you would also have a heavier rifle when done.
I have a length of carbon fiber tube that I would use if I need but at this time not bothering.
    Cheers
    Stu
