What sort of hunting are you doing? 178 eldx do some amazing damage in my experience.

Gunworks sell projectiles in sample packs of 15. Just pick a projectile from their catalogue and chose that option in the dropdown list.

Have a look at Nathan Fosters page on 308, there's a sections on projectiles for handloads. There's more information in there than you could ever need haha. https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Kno...7.62+NATO.html

If you want a good all rounder at a good price you can’t beat the hornady 150 flat based soft points.

I stopped following that guy when he recommended the lee beam scale as the most precise means of weighing a load...

Apart from that its mostly woffle...

Most if not all 308 bullets will be adequate in killing everything that may be legally hunted in NZ out to 300 yards.

What bullet works in what rifle needs to be figured out on a case-by-case basis. Gunworks 15 bullet packs are a very good chance to test out a few.

Very common rounds that seem to work in many rifles are: 150gr hornady ssts (they tend to be jump sensitive, and not everybody can get them to shoot). Sierra Gamekings/Gamechangers, Speer BTSP (thats what I use, not the most accurate, but cheap and sufficient for my needs. the very soft projectile ensures very good energy transfer, so far has dropped everything I shot on the spot, but some people claim they are too soft.

Bush hunting I'd be looking at the 165 to 200grn in a soft point, depending on barrel length, for an all rounder a 168 eldm trade of is they can pencil through at close range but work well when stretching out

I cringe when that website is brought up. Just internet horsehit all collected together.

The Hornady interlock bullets have always done well as all rounders, and they are cheap. If you have a .308 then the 150 grain Interlock is all you need. If you want long range, I mean out past 400 metres) then the ELD-X is good. But for general purpose hunting there are many standard bullets that work perfectly - the CoreLokt (fi you can find any) the standard Speer 150 grain Prohunter. Seirra gamekings. Basically any standard 150 grain bullet in .30 cal is going to work for you.

Start with 150 grain interlocks or some 150 grain Speers and load them up to 2800 fps, get them to shoot into an 1.5 inch group or so at 100 metres, then go forth into the world with confidence.

if just bush hunting, buy the cheapest softpoints you can find, load a middle of the road load that shoots OK and go hunting.
I dont even do load development for bush hunting ammo anymore, i just pick the "accuracy" load off the nosler online load data and roll with it, or just load minimum load in ADI book. works plenty good for bush hunting out to a couple hundred yards in my 308.

I’ve started using some of these, the 175 gr Sierra Matchking M118LR ammunition. The 308 is such a “Go-To” firearm….. so many variants of ammo for your choice “job”
