Gun City issued an email today with some info on it.
Here is some information on the upcoming law changes regarding semi-auto rifles and shotguns.

Upcoming Law Changes regarding Semi-Auto Rifles and Shotguns.
Dear Gun City Customer,
The Police are aiming for the following law changes to come into effect 1st of November. It is expected that this will be delayed but to no later than early December.
Currently a free standing pistol grip is allowed so long as it is not military pattern:

The police will be able to determine what style of grip is allowed as A category and have advised us that thumbholes like this will be approved:

Dragunov stocks will also be approved, but not free standing pistol grips with attachments glued and screwed.
What does this mean for owners of a pistol grip semi auto?
Police national headquarters have stated that you will be able to do any of these things.
1. Change your stock and continue using it as A-cat.
2. Apply for an E-endorsement on your licence and they will waive the $200 application fee. You must be considered a fit and proper person and have a gun safe that has 6mm steel walls or equivalent: Endorsed Licence Safes - Gun City . Be aware of some safes sold as E-cat which are nowhere near 6mm steel. Once recorded as an E-cat your firearm will then be allowed any MSSA features; (pistol grip, collapsible/folding stock, high capacity magazine, bayonet lug or flash hider.
3. Sell/dispose of your firearm.
The Police advised us that there will be a period, perhaps 6 months where you will be able to organise any of the above to happen.
We are getting asked; Can I still buy the firearm with the free standing pistol grip (non military pattern) today?
Yes you can still buy one until the new law comes into effect. These can be viewed here:223

The Gun City circulation appears to be correct
asked the local arms officer yesterday, his response no official word yet.
Talked to the police man in charge of vetting. They are still having difficulty nutting out the technicalities, but it is generally as above.
And we hear he's been in hiding since you 3 spoke to him lol. Good work Beavis at least we know whats likely to be coming.

Great update Brads and in line with my thinking on where this would all end up.
Team (in particular the AR Black Rifle Crew), get your security organised for E-cat and your application all prepared. Many posts here on the things you need to get in place prior to your application, assuming you do not wish to revert your AR platform to comply with A-cat. Club membership, reasons such as, hunting, 3gun, service match and range. Last thing you want is to be restricted to only range use like a B-cat pistol license.
Any further advice from the more informed and senior members would be appreciated by us all.

The Forum members met with Police yesterday. Below is a summary of the main
points.
The Regulations will come into effect on the 11th of December. There will be
a 6 month Grace period for owners to either convert to E or comply with A.
Two new forms have been constructed for the purpose of moving an A to E one
for those already with an E endorsement and one for those that do not have
an E endorsement but wish to obtain one. It would appear that you still need
justify why you need an E endorsement. From what I can fathom ownership of
the rifle itself may not be reason enough.
Police will roll out a full communication plan in the next few weeks.
It would appear that there are a number of thumb hole stocks coming to
market. GC will not be the only option.
During the Grace Period the Police will take a consultative approach but if
you still have your pistol grip attached to the rifle and cannot demonstrate
that you are waiting on an appropriate A cat stock or that you have started
the E cat process then the Police will be looking to "discuss things with
you". (Take that as you will).. Just like having a large capacity magazine
on your premises ownership of a pistol grip will now attract the same type
of interest from Police if you do not have an endorsed licence. My take on
this is if you decide to stay A cat don't just throw your old pistol grip in
the draw, get rid of it.
A semi automatic without any pistol grip is A cat, however Police will take
an interest in your reason for having the firearm in this condition.
The current situation with Import permits was discussed and I made it clear
that it made doing business with US based suppliers can be difficult as they
want documentation. Police agreed to look at how to help here. We asked if
Customs could be at the next meeting so we could make them aware of our
concerns.
It was made clear that this whole pistol grip change was being driven
politically. Again take that as you will.
It was interesting to get an insight into Police mindset. They want All
front line Police to be easily able to define A from E at a glance. Why? It
may be related to the fact that Police have been very successful in upping
their arrest rates at car crash sites and domestic incidents; by
interviewing all onlookers and checking their details and their vehicles
lots of people are being caught for things like outstanding warrants, unpaid
fines etc.
My take on it is that Police may be looking to enforce a higher level of
compliance when it comes to the way Firearms owners act. This is of course
just my opinion and I could be wrong but the mindset seems to indicate a
strong drive for compliance
