Thread: Change of Address requirements

Having activated a trigger event through moving south, I registered my stuff and notified the local a/o, inviting them to inspect my safe installation.
Today I received an email from firearms compliance@nzpolice, stating I was a responsible fal holder. I’m now asked to provide photographs of:

My firearms storage unit
Clear photos of how it’s fixed to my home
My ammo storage unit with clear photos of how that is fixed to the home.

Within 7 days please.

I would request a visit from someone rather than you taking pics. A physical inspection would be way better

I sent a ‘request for inspection’ several weeks ago. This is the first and only mail I’ve had in response. I’d certainly prefer a physical inspection as in the old days. The current request for photos could easily be doctored by anyone submitting them. Guess they don’t have the staff for onsite visits.

My thoughts is there will still be a physical inspection, but in meantime send us your pics.....as i would suggest they are overworked and the admin team are colating....and the photos will be referenced off at your physical inspection to verify you have actually done what the pics show.

Sooo....now when they leak your address and firearms details to the gangs, they will also provide pictures of what security measyres are in place so the theives can arrive with the right tools for the job........

Photographs of how my safes are secured would prove nothing (as did an actual inspection).

I have two safes, one used for rifles one for ammunition.
Both are securely bolted to a concrete block wall & floor.
All you would see in a photograph is the bolt heads.
All the vetter felt - no saw - at my relicensing was bolt heads.
These bolts heads could be cut off and glued to the safe - they aren't but could have been.
Photographs prove nothing.

Exactly my feelings. I’ve replied to them saying I’m not supplying pics on a/c security concerns.

Nothing at all. But it is their role to conduct a physical inspection , and you could mock up anything and take a pic of it. Plus - as someone else said - there is the ever
present risk of your pics being part of the next data leak that we all know is coming.

Plus a wee part of me says why should you do their job for them?

Don't worry about it. Took 18 months for me.

I enclose my reply below with the proviso that none of you may wish to be as caustic with these fuckwits as I choose to be but I believe in letting these spendthrifts know that someone thinks they are a waste of oxygen



Hello possible scammer whose reply address is different from their sent address

You may or may not be police or FSA, that is neither here nor there

I will not be sending any pictures to you of my security as I do not trust your ability to keep this information secure

I have just looked at Section 34 of the Arms Act (1983). and it states that I need to give written notice of said change of address which I have done


Finally, as to this malarkey here "Finally, if you are yet to register your firearms, you are now required to do so within 30 days. " I would point out to you our previous correspondence which I quote here-

I have closed off the activating event as you advised you had submitted COA prior to the Registry going live.



You are welcome to undertake a physical inspection but please get your facts straight in future as I deal with idiots on a daily basis and do not have the free time for more stupidity without getting paid for it
