    Enough said.

If this guy looses his firearms license it just will prove you are better of with out one, I am NO way condoning what he did and we don't have all the facts, he left in a boat doesn't mean he was drifting. He was shooting towards a public track/walkway

The young fella down south with no license that got caught poacher got nothing
The lady protecting her crop with no license shot her husband got 6 months home detention
Brendon Tarrents to on line friends who went referees for him got what??
And then then you have Tarrant he is guaranteed three meals a day, a warm bed, a roof over his head and a tv for the rest of his life.

Agree. First 2 on your list didn't even have a FAL. The disincentive seems to be so trivial as to be meaningless. Unenforced rules undermine enforcement.

FFS, there's another report of someone being criminally dick-headed...
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/cri...ed-in-the-wall
A stray bullet lodged in a wall in a family home in Puketitiri near Napier.

Please, if you know someone that is an idiot when using firearms, educate them to do better, or report them if they can't be responsible We are all going to be punished in the long term because of incidents like this.

@bigbear - another wet bus ticket case was about the firearms supplied to Quinn Patterson, who committed a double murder at Whangarei Heads back in 2017. Michael John Hayes supplied firearms - including MSSAs - to Patterson who killed a property manager and her daughter when the pair paid a visit to Patterson's home, apparently to install smoke alarms.

Hayes was sentenced to a year's home detention back in 2018. He admitted to several charges, including supplying firearms to Quinn Patterson, who did not have a firearm licence. The Judge said Hayes knew Patterson didn't have a firearms licence but left six guns at Patterson's home and helped him to buy more.

A year's home detention, for what lead to 2 people being killed??? Having had a licence, Hayes would have been acutely aware that his actions were illegal. The justice system is completely out of touch when it comes to sentencing.

And ‘some’ believe gun registration will stop this sort of catastrophe...
