I'm just going though mine right now. Had the AO pop round a few days ago to check my safe.
During the time he was here he never asked why not a sporting rifle. But how I answered the question was ' Currently own a sporting rifle but this is unsuitable for Pet Control (Goats) due to its limited rounds. '
If your thinking of getting into say 3 guns or service rifle that you do require an MSSA. Do a few searches on this site as many other people have noted how they answered the question. But as I said before my OA never really asked me
More than a few people have said that it is a sporting rifle.
It's a good idea not to narrow reasons down as they could become restriction in the future.
If your getting your E because of an rifle affected but the law change around pistol grips you have a very good case not to have any restrictions placed on you
Are restrictions ever policed. During my interview with the AO there is no talk about restriction.
Also forgot to added that I also included and you could use this, pretty much covers everything
'Pest Control. target shooting, SRA shooting, collecting and such other lawful uses that may from time to time interest me.'
My answers were:
Why do you need MSSA's: For competition and sporting use including hunting.
Why not sporting firearms: They are sporting firearms.
Got a chuckle from the AO when I submitted it - went through without a problem.
The answer often used is: 'They are modern sporting firearms which shalll be lawfully used for sporting purposes'
Then the '... and such other lawful purposes which may from time to time interest me.'
To round it out!
Just what other unlawful purposes do they expect fit and proper persons to say they want to use an MSSA for?
The midset that sporting firearms equipment used for sport shooting purposes is somehow NOT a sporting firearm is bizzare and shows where their thought process is.
I answered "I have them as well." - no problems. I'm not aware of anybody being turned down for E endorsement - interested to know if anyone has been?
Good info here, yes there are similar threads answering this and other related questions I think under ....free E's, well almost.... or similar thread which makes good reading. I just got my visit on Sunday for the inspection and vetting so just waiting now. Cheers

I've heard of people saying they wanted their e endorsement for service rifle shooting and never went to a single shoot with any club. The police revoked the endorsement because the person had no reason to have them and also lied on their application for why they wanted it.
There was a rash of revokations of MSSA endorsements when people relinquished their Pistol Club membership and pistol endorsement because they had used '3-Gun' as the reason for having the MSSA. That is when the more inclusive 'reasons' were developed ... by NSA
