But where’s the logic in requiring the declaration of a suppressor??

you're expecting logic?

I stand by my earlier post about putting it in your luggage and saying nothing. If there is no firearm present it simply becomes a metal tube . I would stand and argue all day on that one .

Each to there own, id say why waste a day arguing and some possible push back from the airline and cops not just for yourself but the rest of us as well when a simple phone call sorts it.

Look at it through other peoples' eyes. There are some nervous people around currently. Avoid the angst. Its as much about avoiding a difficult situation as it is about what the law strictly says.

Corporate aversion to risk is seldom logical in my experience.

I was told I couldn't take a bipod in my carry on once. Reason was that it was 'part of a gun'.

Everything is a risk to an airline.

Ultimately, the perceived risk with your inert suppressor would probably be hijacking I guess. Remember that some organised men killed thousands of people once with nothing more than a collection of box cutters. Whether we like it or not, that event changed the world.
