    Further Firearms/Hunting/Outdoors Training and Learning

I hope this is the correct section.
Thought some other newbies might also be interested in this.

I now have my FAL (and a new rifle) on the way and interested if there are any further training courses offered. Personally, I would like to gain knowledge and confidence surrounding firearms and experience and fitness to be in the outdoors and or on a range.

So far I have found a course offered here in Auckland:
Hunter Training - NZDA Auckland Branch

Has anyone completed this course? comments?

Or is there anything else in Auckland worth looking at? I'm guessing time with the rifle at a range will help grow the confidence but always keen to learn.

    Thanks in advance.
    Tim

Yep HUNTS course run by NZDA groups are well worth it for the newbies.
There was a ploytech course in pest management, dont know much about it sorry.
Join a club, if you do get involved in the club.

Forgot to mention. Go to range Days and organised NZDA and other shooting club events. I personally have learned alot from attending these type of events. You learn about shooting over distance and you learn your rifle at the same time.
Go to Gillace Run shooting competitions, Tarata, Hihitahi etc they are worth it for learning skill @Gillie

If you haven't shot much another way to learn good, safe habits is to visit an indoor range like Howick or Waitakere and shoot some small bore. Howick range has Manukau Sporting Rifle Club - www.msrc.co.nz - who shoot .22's at 25 yards at various targets. You'll learn safety, good shooting techniques and have a spot of fun too.

+1 for indoor small bore, pickup some good habits and can really focus on your techniques in a consistent environment.
