Bloke from down this way (friend of a friend) managed to shoot himself in the foot last year - 10/22, loaded with safety on while cruising around his farm shooting bunnies - Slipped on something getting out of the ute, didn't touch the trigger but apparently smacked the butt against the doorframe hard enough to slam fire.
He was limping around looking rather sheepish for a good few weeks, fortunate that it was only a 22 and I guess it passed between the bones in his foot.
A mate also told me about a close call he had - out bunny shooting with a Norinco JW-20 (the wee takedown semi) - thinking he was quite safe, one up the spout but safety on and held pointing up and away from him with trigger finger resting along side the action. Tripped over on a rabbit hole or something, as he stumbled his finger slipped down, across the safety (which is one of those push-through buttons set in the front of the trigger guard) and onto the trigger, putting a round into the ground in front of him. He sold that rifle soon after for something with a more foolproof safety arrangement.
Good reminders not to get lax about safety - both guys who are sensible and safety conscious, but thought they were being safer than they actually were.
