About LinkBacksDougie, I have had Tinitus a.k.a. "gunner ear" (the high frequency ringing in your ears) for at least the last three decades and have learned to ignore it even though it is there continuously. I attribute it entirely to noise exposure while in the army (rifles, machine guns, howitzers, thunder flashes, grenades, etc). Interestingly, I had a hearing test just 4 months ago and apart from the Tinitus my hearing is in the normal range.
The bugger about that is now my missus knows that I am able to hear OK, she just accuses me of being an ignorant bastard. I don't know about your time in the green machine but ear plugs/muffs were not provided when I was in.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
