As a slight tangent - I'm inclined to think that the best advocacy is trying to get more people into the sport (hunting/recreational shooting). I think what has played out in many places, that due to an increasing population shift towards larger towns and cities, people inevitably become more less connected to the practices of the bush/land, and outdoor pursuits in general. This seems particularly true of Australia, where despite the size of the place, the large majority of the population are city dwellers. It's inevitable that policy will favour the wishes and perceptions of the majority. If your only exposure to firearm use is a John Wick movie, no one is going to convince you that the general public should be allowed more access to firearms.
I think this is something practical, that hunters/shooters can actually do - invite someone for a hunt, on a range trip, or maybe gifting some fruits of hunt as a way to start a conversation. There are plenty of good arguments for responsible hunting/firearm use - mental health benefits, connection to the land, ethical harvesting of meat, pest control et.c. I think people are more likely to be convinced of this when they actually get to experience it for themselves.
