    Here is the spearheading level of security NZ Police employs to secure MSSAs, Pistols and ammunition in their mobile safes:

    GPS and body cams would be mandatory if sense prevailed.

    All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

    I guess GPS tracking/history would add an unwelcome level of accountability. Welcome to the surveillance society.

    Live GPS for police seems (from the outside at least) like it'd be a very handy thing to have for the dispatcher in a multitude of possible situations.

    So a volunteer SAR group can and does have live tracking ( via radios) but our protectors don't.

    Actually the paranoid cynic in me understands this. Anything electronic can be hacked. And imagine if crims had the motivation to pay a hacker to access the GPS in a cop car.......Want an MSSA, just look at where they are parked up and head on over.....Want to know when they will knock down the door to retrieve the stolen MSSA / police car....thats OK just look out for the GPS. Any tech you can think of has two sets of applications; the ones it was designed to do and the ones that it can be used for. The only tech that cannot be abused or misused is the tech that was not present to be used. Cant stab someone if there is no knife. Cannot die in a motor accident if there is no vehicle. Cannot win the rugby match if the other team does not turn up.Cannot hack a computer that is not there.

    @timattalon

    Who would need to track a cop car to see where it is? You just call them and they come -- just don't use a story of a gun burglary. (-:

    Gang headquarters? Who knows? I am simply saying that if it is not there then it cannot be hacked. Just because someone is paranoid, it does not make them wrong......

    On another point, when I originally moved to Chch many years ago, I was flatting with my wife. I did not bring the rifles down because I had no where to use them. I was advised to bring one down and secure it in the flat, because if it was burgled, it was a low priority but if it was burgled with a firearm on site it became a much higher priority and someone would actually turn up.

    Lol. They attend something like 8 percent of firearms burglaries.
