    Safe Alarms

Thinking about putting some sort of alarm specifically around my safes.

With technology advancing so much thinking this can probably be done at reasonable cost these days?
What's out there? Thinking something that went to my phone could also be handy?

get a decent brand home alarm instead. its just one more zone to add if you havent got a PIR installed in the same room.

I have a monitored home alarm. I have the "stay" mode set up so shed and back door are active, it would be easy to have a door sensor on the safe.
I also have a motion activated camera in the shed that could be used inside a safe, it sends a photo to my email address but I think it can do texts to phone as well. No battery backup on camera though,

Please put some options for self install @gonetropo I'm interested. My boss has just installed one from bunnings that he can dial into on his phone but I'd rather get advise from someone in the know.

honestly any " shop" selling alarms will sell you crap that either wont go off/ be easy to get passed/ goes off so many times the neighbours ignore it.
you will never stop " smash and grab" burglary. what you may stop it the buggas spending an hour inside

I've done the zone thing before and found it was a bit of a pain in the arse. Thinking something separate, set and forget as won't be operated very often as other alarm system.

They’ve just installed an Ajax system at work that’s all controlled by your phone, seems very robust so far.
Cameras, alarms, motion detectors and remote operation for the doors.

Any decent home alarm system will be fine, like gonetropo said.
DSC panels are good and lots of options.
Either add an extra zone or create a seperate partition which uses a different code to disarm, so its armed 24/7. (Alarm tech can sort this for you)
PIR for the room and install a door reed on the inside of the safe door.
Add a module from Eyezon and you download the software to your phone.
Take it one step further, throw some CCTV cameras in the mix and you can still run them via the eyezon app.

If you don’t want the alarm guy poking around the safe you can pre run the wires yourself and even close the circuit for the door as the reed is magnetic.
He can just hook it up to the main system and your done.
I would recommend you invest in a UPS system hooked into your modem/fibre so in the event of a powercut you still have access etc.
Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...

Monitoring and dialing to your phone are Phphhhhh. They all are "after the event" systems. You could be 2 hrs from home when the thing goes off, and if you bought cheap its most likely a false alarm. Do you really want to phone a friend and ask them to go see whats happening?

CCTV recorded to a hard drive, might give you ID of the doers, if they havent taken steps to hide their ID. Cameras external and internal. With low light / night vision.
Beam detection outside can give a pre warning. Glass break sensors can give a pre warning inside the dwelling.

A very stout safe and lots of noise is my best advice. It all depends what you need to protect.

I have been in the industry as well.

and never skimp on decent cameras !
i have been asked to remove footage from crap systems so the police can use the video and honestly some were a total waste of time

yep a stout safe and lots of noise is necessary. i used to be able to buy 128dB inside sirens, unfortunately this might have hurt mr burglar so they got banned

I'd be happy if the alarm simply played 'the brown note'
(Southpark fans you know who you are!)

Course id not be happy if i forgot about said alarm...

Our home alarm is monitored 24/7 and as stated this system will send somebody out if nobody home when it goes off. At $28 a month it's a bit of piece of mind.
