Always open and the chamber before handing a firearm to someone and always inspect the chamber when receiving it.
This a basic safety precaution I don't often see.

Totally agree with the above statement.

Same guys, always open the action and inspect when receiving / handing a rifle over!!!!
I'm slack with this. I know if Im loaded or not and let who ever needs to know know.
You should be shot! Toby slack is not a word to use here!!:wtfsmilie: surely if someone hands you a firearm, the muzzles safe and if the actions closed you open it. We always had a system of some sort when out shooting, including spot checks!
The most important rule imo is keeping that muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
what's the best thing regarding this with a semi rifle or pump shottie?
With a semi, I drop to one knee, magazine out, tilt-cock, tilt-look. Hold working parts to the rear / apply hold-open (if applicable). Allow receiving shooter to confirm chamber empty. Hand over. Pump action much the same, unload until empty, action open and visually inspect chamber, check elevator, check magazine (tube). Hand over with action open.
Why drop to the knee?
Seems like alot of work to just empty a gun and show someone tbh
Do it your own way then. :)
