OK to answer my own question I realise now that it’s the purchase of ammo that is a triggering event after June this year .

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE NUMBERS , NOT THE IDEA
So what is the deal in a circumstance when firearm is not on the register, someone buys it and puts it on the register. Do we have that ability under the legislation?
That can be done, it allows ilegally owned firearms to become legal & registered.
My mate said he did it, just registered it in his name and didn't have to list any info about the seller.
We're still looking for an old .22 in a deceased estate, apparently he had 1 years ago without a current FAL. This will enable it to become legal again.
Awesome, thank you.
So another question, when you rebarrel a firearm, say from 223 to 308, swapping the barrel and the boltface, do you change the type of cal in the registry, or how do you go about that so you don't have two firearms in the registry with the same serial number but different cal's?
Bad day today trying to phone them, have "hung on" for 2 hours in total for no joy. Maybe staff shortages?
I "needed" to register - after the ninth successive working day of sitting listening to their crappy music and their dorky messages , I finally managed to speak to a live person.
The number of firearms I registered was a fairly straightforward process . but there wasnt anything too contentious in there .
My registration will be by installment - okayed by my local arms officer in writing so I will take my time doing it.
too old to die young
Ive been trying for weeks, bloody useless
you would think that they would have their staff available at times that fit with the people they are trying to deal with. Finishing at 5 is hopeless , and there is obviously not enough phone answering people.
If you want people to comply you need to make complying easy to do......
