I suspect m much of the giving of the gift of a symbolic gun is just a sign of a difference in American culture that we dont understand, and likely harkens back to older traditions such as giving a sword etc.

And likewise I dont expect the US officials to understand our culture that well either.

I also suspect that a decade or two back, such a gift would have just quietly disappeared with no comment. Which is probably a better more adult solution.
    Unsophisticated... AF!

It kind of became a collector, souvenir and party-favour thing, as the whole idea was never official as far as I am aware.
If there's a group from the same unit in a bar, any one of them can pull their coin out and whomever has forgotten their one buys the round.

Here's a couple with an old 10c for scale.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Without the proper import permit? Mr Patel could be charged with smuggling contrebande :-)
FBI aren't searched, they are allowed to enter NZ and go anywhere with their pistols
