What is wrong with people?
If this isn't proven to be just media hype, Ya have to ask. How did any of these people get a licence?

Wow - just wow.
If this is true wouldnt the gunshop owner report these idiots? Sure they might not come back and spend their money but you reduce your risk of getting shot over the counter.
There is really no excuse for it.
Several incidents are claimed in the last week.
See what drinking pond scum does @Rushy😆

Gunworks has a sign at the door stating any bolt actions must have the bolts removed and semis and lever actions must have the actions opened. I expect they have the sign for a reason.
The article quotes police saying the FAL holders in question can expect to lose their FAL. So they should, as they've also transported a loaded firearm. Idiots.
Maybe the gun shop should be taking the same measures as Robbie T - force the gun owner to demonstrate the firearm is safe b4 handing it over. No more or less than I expect when someone hands me a firearm.
I dont believe it. I think some advertising was needed for a quiet Jan. 5 in 1 week, I dont think so.
I used to hang out in a gun shop for my lunch hour as I was mates with the owner. In that hour I used to witness some dumb shit done by customers and firearms. Marching in off the street, bolt in & action closed waving it around carelessly etc etc. Needless to say they got an abrupt telling off. Hate to say it but cockies were some of the worst :pissed off:
I don't even understand how.....
What happened to opening the bolt so all can see it is unloaded before passing a firearm to someone.
And wouldn't you remove the bolt before taking the rifle into a shop.
I think by law you are meant to remove the bolt and mag well transporting a firearm.
What dumb F------.
I was in a shop recently and some pig hunter brings in a lever Rossi saying it's malfunctioning, locked partway open. Staff member starts twiddling with it, trying to free it up. Has a good play for a few minutes before the dude casually mentions that the mag is full and it may have one chambered. FFS wouldn't you mention that first off?!
You should work on a dodgy politicians campaign team😆

i have had 4 times, had a customer enter the store and hand over a loaded firearm with a chambered round.
numerous times i have had loaded mags inserted into a firearm but the chamber clear.
i once took from a customer, a loaded firearm with a chambered round and safety off who was waving it at me, discribing the fault with the rifle.
sometimes, you see some scary shit on the other side of the counter.
greg
Ridiculous.
I can't fathom the stupidity of some people. Bugger that.
I would be growling at anyone sweeping me with a firearm no matter what state it was in.
It has probably happened but I can't recall anyone I enjoy shooting sports with doing it off the top of my head.

If an AO gave a loaded firearm back to a person he was storing it for and the said firearm was discharged while placing it in a car would the AO retain his position? Or employment? Just asking
I would put the blame on the last person to handle the firearm personally, as they did not ensure it was safe before they received it.

In my opinion anyone taking possession of a firearm from another person and not insisting that they first show that it's clear and unloaded,
is entirely responsible for any subsequent problems.
I was once at a party where somebody was like come look at my guns. These guys were swinging this pump action shotgun around then leant it on a chair action closed etc. I had an urge to check it was clear, and ejected an unfired cartridge from the chamber. It gave me the shits thinking how far south things would have gone if one of those dick heads pulled the trigger.
That is some scary shit Beavis.
It just gave me the urge to go thru all of my firearms just now to make sure they were clear.
They were. So now I am going to reward myself by firing a couple of them.

I always ask the person handing me a firearm to open the bolt or action first, I then visually check myself. @Rushy can't say anymore, but it concerns me!
couldnt agree more guys .some are just thickas pigshit full stop.
theres no bloody excuses whatsoever fullstop. Im hot on this .
took my .223 in to get barrel threaded last week- bolt&mag travel seperate ,thank you very much and I asked the staff member if he wanted them with the rifle ,only then did i hand them over.
Generallyy I never leave a mag loaded ,but if it is(.22) ,its secured well and bloody truly clear of the rifles etc.likewise bolts.
Imof the opinion perhaps its time shop staff refused service if weapons are presented in a such a state!
may be tough but hells bells if anything went wrong in the shop MBIE would tuck into the staff without as much as a single word of contrition.
Why would you NEED to take ANY ammo into a shop for ANY reason....if a firearm is to be repaired / whatever I am sure that unless the ammo was stuck in the weapon...the gunny would have ammo available for testing or whatever....report every incident to the polis....
Idiots, I must admit I find gun safety pretty bad with rifles, compared to the UK, when I did my NZ course the instructed was telling us that, they used to use confiscated guns to demonstrate different actions, this was stopped when a rifle was brought up from storage at the police station, and was found to be loaded, so the gun was confiscated, stored and signed out, while all the time being loaded.
As for shotguns at one clay shooting club in Hants in the UK, 7 shotguns were found to be loaded while left unattended , instant confiscation of all weapons owned, license revoked and criminal charges brought.
Was talking about this thread tonight while having a drink with a mate at his shop. He has been a outdoors retailer for 20 years and has had a couple similar incidents and one recently. He growled the fella out the shop for showing up with a loaded mag in the rifle.
A little off the topic , . Ive had it twice in the field now, blokes that disengage safety on a shot gun well before game has flushed . Both have been trap skeet shooters & I'm guessing they get the habit from the club ? . What is the requirement at the gun club ? Do trap guns have safeties ?
Some trap guns don,t engage safety automatically, but all modern guns have safety's, when in the trap cage you normally load when ready and release safety followed by calling pull, unless shooting flush you then just load and wait until clays appear.
With semi auto or pump although they lock open, we just put a used cartridge in the ejection port, brass end in, plastic out so it can,t close and people can see its chamber is empty.
I have never used a safety in any of the clay diciplines yet.
Not even when I was shooting an auto for a few years.

I always use a safety, as I spent as much time shooting driven pheasant as clays
I have a friend who works in a gun shop in Arizona. They have a BIG sign on their door stating "If you are bringing a firearm in for repair or to sell it must be in a case. Any openly displayed firearms will be treated as a threat" All the staff carry pistols in the shop and he said at least a couple of times every week they have to draw on someone walking in waving a gun or drawing a pistol at the counter. He also said the worst offenders are the local cops.
His boss owned another gun shop years ago where a guy started to draw a pistol he wanted to get new sights for, the boss told him not to draw it in the store but to take it into the range area out back, clear it then case it and come back. Apparently the guy argued that it was already clear, went to pull it again and shot himself.
