Insider threat is always the biggest risk, and hardest to protect against for these things.
A properly crafted application with all of the security controls in place, and adequate concequences for breaching those controls, "should" ensure our data is safe.
Problem seems to be that the concequences for stealing our data are ineadequate to stop people from doing it.
its not a question of if it will happen but when it will.
Better cancel your FAL, your personal information will be stored on a database for that too.
The way I see it is probably not, and I have and am taking more steps to help against situations I would rather avoid.
But it's mandatory, not voluntary, so I don't lose sleep over it because it's not my choice to make.
You can get most things in life if youve got the $$$ legally or otherwise...
I was being facetious :P. Trying to point out that any IT system holding valuable information about us is at risk of being leaked.
You should care a little about your info. It can be used to make a profile of someone and used by scammers to get access to their accounts.
How many institutions have you called and all they ask for is your D.O.B and Address as identity verification?
It is a matter of record here that I am no fan of the register and I absolutely believe that the data contained in it will be jeopardised at some point, BUT, the article above demonstrates that there are checks and balances to the NIA system as this bugger was caught accessing data he had no business to be accessing. I expect that the register will have similar checks and balances.
That's a bit of a strawman. Storing specific details of which firearms you own and how many is more dangerous than a list of FAL holders.
Not that you would want either leaked, but the registry details in the wrong hands has more potential for violent criminals to target people.
