Saw this on TM and looks very tidy for a 1964 vintage. My son loves old school guns and thought it would be a good trap gun for him. Thoughts? Or stick to newer with longer forcing cones etc as he wants to compete.

Good for dtl but not skeet with those chokes. Age is also an issue with parts availability. If he's starting out it might be better to actually fit a gun to him rather than the other way around.
School shooting teams and clubs are a good place to try multiple guns and get proper advice and coaching before making a commitment.
I'd get an Akkar Trap for that money. I saw one clean up the Northland Point score against a bunch of former NZ rep shooters with $10k+ guns. They seem to tick a lot of boxes.
Yes fitting would be ideal.
Its got an adjustable cheek piece so way more doable than some. Chokes are a little tight but some like them that way.
Being in Wellyvegas doesn't help either
Like Savage has suggested though, you can buy a new one for close to that. As long as it fits him it will be better than an expensive one that doesn't.
It appears to have been fully tarted up, reblued, stocks refinished, new pad, plus the adjustable cheek piece. Generally, Browning U&O's are good property, beutifully made, and have some collector value. Refinishing has a drastic affect on value, especially when it has not been very well done.
He's 90kg so 12 is fine and uses a Nikko now. That is ok ans his younger brother could have the nikko.
I bought a very original one of these for my daughter who is 5' something.Gavin Paton fitted an adjustable cheekpiece and it suits her very well.These are handmade guns and worth many times their asking price.They do have an inertia trigger and don't like light loads.
I'm a great fan of these guns. Different style from many of the modern guns and are less bulky.
I picked up a school shooting national title back in 1998 with a similar model but with double triggers.
At the end of the day, its finding the right gun for your son. If the shooter can't do their part, then no gun will improve it.
There has been a real drop in the number of O&U shotguns available due to the shift to steel shot. Coupled with the price of other similar guns, there is really only beretta and akkars available. Akkars are a solid entry level shotgun but I'd take the browning.
Its the high cost of alternatives that has more people buying akkars so just on averages they will appear on the podiums
It would be a solid gun if the internals have been maintained, possibly spendy if not as parts will most likely need to be custom made. I'd say have a crack at it, you wont lose too much if its no good and sell it on.
I passed on it. I have non-buyer's regret.
