Cycling Issues - Suggestions from the learned among you.

No! This has nothing to do with Rushy’s fat arse being too big for the bike seat.

I recently purchase a replacement shotgun for the evil Typhoon F12 that I will hand in at the local Police Station at 16:59 on 20th December. I am now the proud owner of a Benelli M3 which is a nice little fun gun that can quickly switch between semi automatic and pump action modes.

Up to now I have been happily using these in my Typhoon:

but these will not cycle properly in the Benelli with there being a stoppage between every shot. Even an old man like me can work out there is not enough grunt in the cunt to push the breech block back far enough to eject and pick up the next round. I proved this with some double ought and number four buck shot, both of which cycled fine.

The supplier that I purchased the gun from gave me a box of these:

I blew the box away down on my range yesterday and they all cycled well. This confirmed to me that it is all about the oomph factor but I am concerned that the number five shot will be frowned on by the club IPSC convener.

Do any of you more ardent shot gunners out there have any suggestions? I am particularly interested to know whether there is a gruntier seven and a half shot round that I might try.

Is there a gas block you can adjust?

Nope. It is inertia driven.

It came up under 'new posts' so never looked under what section...clues are wasted on the clueless.

Padded or hard stock? Will make a marginal difference for inertia driven semi to be hard(er) up against the shoulder.

Heavy sight on the gun? Again will make a marginal difference to the inertia drive.

Alternatively, just use the pump action facility for those rounds.

Literally just try any other trap load. Sometimes guns just don't like a brand.

Look for something with the highest velocity I would suggest falcon V3 which runs at 1350fps or something similiar.

Falcon also makes a 32gram 7 1/2 for handicap in aus. Cant remember the name but you should be able to get your hands on some via reloaders or one of your locals.

Wait I see the prob. That ammos for professionals, shop owner will be pissing himself?

Clever and clever lite are 1oz loads that cycle erratically in semis due to the lowish velocity and shot charge not giving enough recoil energy to cycle the action. They do work quite well in gas operated guns and run in inertia guns though.
Those std 1 1/5th loads obviously give more of a thump.
The club i belong too used to buy clever but has gone to target products because of availability. Their olympic and v1 seem to cycle semis fine.
Yours will improve with wear im sure.

Thanks Marty. Yes I reckon that with time I will re try the original ammo and may well have an entirely different result.

If the gun is new it may need some running in as well, although as previous comments have stated you may just need some with a little more boot.
Strange thing is that my old browning A5 has the swappable rings for recoil/operation. In the orientation for heavy loads, it works just fine with the trap loads I'm using.
probably velocity has a bit to do with it as well.

run a slab or 2 of heavy loads thru it and try the trap loads again

Ok, it all makes sense now, I get why you need a gun when you're out cycling.

The Benelli and other inertia operated semi-auto shotguns all give unreliable performance with light trap loads. The easiest solution is to just use 32 gram (1-1/8 ounce) loads. They are also very sensitive to body stance, you need to lean into them to get reliable functioning. Leaning back, light body weight, or less than a firm grip will all affect functioning. The large spring behind the bolt head can be replaced with a similar sized one but made from one gauge smaller wire for reliable light load performance but it needs to be changed back for heavier loads.

Rushy shouldn't have the platform wrong. His grip and lean maybe the culprits tho[emoji16]

It takes a while but the smelly benellis will cycle light trap loads after a bit of use.

It was tight in the shoulder and I was leaning into it on each shot. Maybe it was my light body weight, I am only 120 kilos these days. Ha ha ha ha.

@Rushy ate all the pies?

Glad I bought a gas gun, but it did come with an evil mag extension. I might have to hand it in just out of protest. I was going to just bin it, never use it, but since they're actually paying good coin I think it would be rude to deprive the baying sheeple masses the opportunity dip their hands in their pockets. ;)

There were pies left in the a warmer at all of the bakeries that I did not go to GM.

clever is shit ammo tha nearly blew my face of in 20 gauge I wouldn't have it on my arse for a pimple .
ive also see it , come apart in 12 gauge trap loads to.
try eley Olympics or gamebore 30 gram 7,s I imagine eley vips in 7s would also solve the problem

Eley is distributed by humping and fisting "the shooters friend" get rio, or target products who also do fiocchi.

cycling depends on the stock you have: pistol grip stock can handle lighter loads. traditional stock requires 1 and 1 quarter dram field loads. place the stock up against the wall and try firing it.....it cycles you aren't bracing yourself enough. if it doesn't fire then replace the recoil springs with brownells or wolf springs. M3 is great gun but mind you it was designed to function with buckshot and slugs.

Iva M2 and have never had a problem cycling light loads, have not tried this said ammo however. For what it's worth I think you hav the gun right just maybe not the food your feeding it
