    Sideplate is different from sidelock. Rizzini have some nice sideplate models. Neil Hayes at Masterton is an agent I think.
    Beretta have sideplate grades and so do some spanish makers. True high grade sidelocks are another big step up the "grade" ladder.

    What type does the Browning B725 have?

    I had no idea there were different types, I just pull the trigger on my Akkar and it seems to go every time.

    Sideplates are just a pretty decoration and serve zero mechanical function. Usually exhorbitantly increase purchase price for no other reason than "good looks". They allow more area for engraving / artistry which may enhance the intrinsic traditions associated with the firearm above just badic funtionality. E.G. , fine engraving with gold or silver inlays etc. Think of a presentation sword compared to standard issue.
