Metal flakes cleaning barrel...and clean load?

My new Beretta 694 is a pig to clean. I thought the chrome lining was coming off!! Required drill and brass brush to sort it with CRC and Hoppes.

It occurs in the first 3rd of the barrel...forcing cones. I found an article where someone else with steelium plus barrel had same problem. It produces a shiny metal flake or crumble. They are soft and will leave a silver smear on fingers.

Apparently due to the forcing cones and effect on the lead shot. Not had this issue so profoundly in other Berettas I have/had but they shot mainly steel except for the SV10.

Shooting Falcon Blue. May need to try a cleaner load??

A cleaner load? Surely the flakes are from the lead shot?

Yes you're right...hmm. Above barrel shot is after brass brush...they always look bad but this is next level. It eventually cleans up well... have ordered a new brush too. And next time will clean with skeet chokes in to avoid crap keeping into choke threads.

The shot should be contained within the petals of the wad, the shot shouldn't contact the barrel unless the wad is too short for the charge

Ok...mystery solved. My father in law shot a round of skeet with the 694 and he has changed to cupless shot which I hadn't heard of.

    Bloody hell

Thought I new a fair bit about iron and steel but steelium? WTF is that? Sounds like marketing BS to me.

I think it is, noticed no difference with my 30yo SKB barrels in terms of the steel.
