    Remington 1100

After some advice on a Remington 1100
Long story short after pinching the old boys fancy new beretta last few seasons
He acquired and gifted me a Remington 1100 trap with 30 inch barrel
It’s a mid 60s model checkering quite a nice gun in unbelievably good condition

Witch brings me to the point I want if for ducking and guess I need to have it reamed to take steel shot as it has a full fixed choke witch I’m hesitant about as it really is mint and original

Have looked around local Canterbury stores for a second barrel with the correct choke but no luck

Question is should I really care about reaming it probably not ever going to be worth a great deal right?

is 30inch going to be to long for ducking?

Any advice or other options I could consider

Researched the net a little and got hit and miss info about fitting a later model barrel with removable chokes witch sounded like the ideal fix but no solid info.

    Thanks 👍🏻

Is the barrel a 30inch step rib or flat rib? 30 inch is a pretty long barrel for hunting if you are a smaller person in my opinion. What sort of choke are you wanting for ducking? For pond & closer shooting or big lake & Sky busting? I used a skeet barrel on my Rem 1100 25inch so was nice & mobile but only used 32gram loads as the trap barrels have 2 gas ports so are designed for lighter loads & heavy loads will beat the action up. Try for a field barrel or sell off the trap barrel or whole gun & get what you need. I could be interested in the rem 1100 trap barrel or whole gun if you are looking to move it on.

they have a good name...made by the big green when they still made good guns....any gunsmith worth his weight in goat shit can either ream it out to be more open or cut a couple of inches off and thread for aftermarket chokes...
    you have a 3rd option

use lighter loads in shot size #3-4 NO BIGGER THAN #3 you can get good 30-32 grm steel loads that work well, thats what I use in the super tight barrel on the bakail U/O theory on lighter and smaller is the pellets dont bridge/jam together/bump shoulders trying to squeaze out the tight bit at the end.
look around for a 2nd barrel, ring gunsmiths and shops....doesnt matter what condition its in,even if you got a 20" no choked barrel it gives you options and ability to leave origonal as it is.

Depending on the age of the 1100 you may be able to use a 11-87 model barrel on it. I believe some variants allow you to do this, but you may have to swap the forend to do this. The extractor is lighter on the 1100 as well, so it might take a beating with heavy game loads.

pretty sure 1100's are only 2&3/4" chambers to, so that limits you somewhat too.

Other option is depending on where/what you are shooting ... lead shot may still be an option...?

I have hunted / target shot with a 11-87 Premier (30" barrel) for 20 years. Absolutely love it. No problem with ducks/geese/etc. Looked at buying new replacement but doesn't feel right. (Note this is one of the older guns that were from the era when Remington made quality shotguns)
Hunting is not a hobby.....its an addiction

Cheers guys might see what another barrel is worth before I do anyone else a while back I asked about threading for a choke and was told they send them to someone in Aus but surely there would be some skilled blokes here that could do it. Haven’t actually had it out in the field so can not say our it swings feels but it is by far a lot longer than I have ever used.
It is a stepped rib barrel mainly use pond shooting and river edge flushing with the dog medium-long distance I put a pattern master code black duck on the old boys and found that about perfect for me but that was using 3inch but once it’s sorted It will be what it is and will adjust to suit.

Micky duck funny thing I run and old bikial under and over also what and old battle axe it is solid as.

All good advice will make a few more enquires it’s just around the corner cheers 👍🏻👍🏻

good stuff...and 3" is over rated in my opinion..... yip it does kill a little better BUT 90% of the time we do just as well with the shorter shells...I do like the 3" 1 1/8th oz going 1550 fps loads but the 2 3/4" isnt far behind it...
chokes n loads are funny things, often what you think you are getting is far from what you actually are...a big sheet of paper or tin or plywood tells the truth. and 40 yards is a fairly long way away.

im using kent 2 3/4 inch fasteel for parries and gamebore 30 gram steel 2 for geese in the new double.
if I could have got the gamebore load in 3,s or 4,s id be using that on ducks and parries.
but its so popular the shop had one box of two,s left so...…
the 1100 was fine when I was young dumb and full of come.
but after a day quail hunting with one uh huh never again
it took 2 days for my arms to shrink back.
the only load it didn't like were remys own 2 3/4 nitro mags
    but everything else great.
settle on 40 gram falcon lead 2.s for geese eley 34 gram 5,s for ducks
then when steel came in Winchester drylock 2,s expert steel all in 2 3/4 inch loads

I have a Rem 1100, it's been a great gun , has done a lot of work on pests night shooting with only one hiccup, a extractor broke one night but I ordered a new one and fitted it myself.
I think they are all 23/4 inch ..mine is.
I think there is a 1100 barrel for sale on TM under firearm parts I will check and let you know.

I've got a camo 28" 11-87 barrel c/w screw in chokes and fore-end. According to Mr Google it should fit your 1100.
Please PM me if that's of interest.
