    Sub-gauge tubes for skeet

I've been offered this Briley tube set to buy, and the bloke suggested I try them first. They don't appear to have done much work. So, a round of skeet in each gauge scored 24 for 20g, 24 for 28g and 21 for .410.

No issues with the 20 and 28 performances, but I'm still curious about people's opinions about these short .410 tubes.

Stations 1 & 2, no problems hitting them. Missed H3 but got the repeat. Got both on station 4 but missed both on station 5.

Missed L6 single but hit it on the double. Missed nothing else.

The guy who coaches me isn't a fan of these short tubes and suggested I offer the owner $500 for the set as they might be useful to attach longer tube extensions to in the future. When I cleared Station 1, he said that wasn't what he expected.

I really don't think any of those misses were due to low pellet velocity arising from the short tubes, and I'm inclined to go ahead and buy them. What do I have to lose?

A expensive but of kit you have there. If they work then its worth it. New they would be pretty pricey

2 things to do, fire a couple shells over a chrony to see if the velocitys are where they should be, ie is all the powder burning in that shorter length,
Than fire a couple more on the pattern board, if both those things check out there's no problem.
You could influence the patterns with the 12g chokes.
I'll be seeing BT and MH tomorrow

Try the .410 by chucking a full choke in the outer 12ga barrel.... I bet your pattern will improve no end. Buy them..they will never be cheaper.

From memory my .410 adaptor tube is no more than 300mm in total and it's straight walled internally,eg NO taperdown to skinnier bore and it still takes out bunnies at 25 yards.

    Good suggestions.
My skeet gun is fixed choke, SK:SK
I will try the pattern board, not only with the 410 but 20 and 28 as well, for interest's sake.
I did the deal with Tony, I started at $500 and he eventually agreed to $600, which I think is a bargain.

While I've been looking at options, this came up.
Maybe not the most practical option, but who said buying guns had to be based on logic and reason?

Niel G has a 30in set of briely tubes with a case for 4k?
Be cheaper than that 4 barrel set?
But I like the idea of a 4 barrel set as well

You probably know JT from Waitemata? I think he's trying to fit me into a high-rib Krieghoff with release trigger etc.... too rich for my blood.

If the money is not a problem get the set of four .... thats really nice.

I shot short chamber insert tubes for 20 and 28 gauges I used the 20 tubes in a 12 before i bit the bullet on a gun and again with the 20 G i got the 28 set to see how it went before I got the real deal. Both sets worked as advertised and killed game ( but I am nor a DTL / skeeter dude)

We shot the short and full length 20g inserts over my chrony last weekend, was surprised to find drop off in velocity between the two was practically nothing,I'm told it's not so good with the 410 short tubes, which are about 300mm long
