Do you know much about quality shotguns?
Wirehunt, I share your view but with pigeon trials in particular you are not allowed to shoot them...good dog, it might offend someone...seriously the governance on that was during the 1950s I think!! and fair enough too, I guess as not all trialists are shooters or hunters.
I am at a loss however to understand why the mainland P & S fraternity cannot organise live game trials...considering that the Spaniel people hold them down there on the preserves...wouldnt it just be a case of talking to someone?????
Rabbits are forbidden quarry for the P & S...although again the Spaniel lot are ok with it...
If I lived on the mainland my biggest concern for the trials down there would be how to increase numbers of participants and their dogs...the recent QC trial held near Rotorua attracted an entry of 16 dogs...
The reason the P&S QC trials are popular is because the P&S NG trialists and the "pigeon" trialists can all come together to compete on an equal basis for a qualification.
It is widely accepted that training on pigeons is one of the best methods of teaching pointing dogs manners, because you can release the bird in a controlled situation.
The best way to teach them manners whatever the real meaning of that is, is to establish good control and hunt them...
Since I'm not a trialer I'm struggling with thing's like P&S and a few other shorten up's. Would someone like to explain please?
