    Just curious, why dock?

I have no strong feelings either way really but have heard the anti docking reasons, so would like to know why you would as well.

HPR breeds especially, can severely damage their tails while hunting heavy cover and gorse.

It is cruel not to dock imo.

Meant to mention them as well. My first gun dog was a springer.

When I got my new pup the breeder was saying that he thinks it will be outlawed in NZ by the end of the year.

When my last GSP was in his last year's I had him at the vet.

I started talking about docking with the vet as I was going to get another pup to try and bring some life into my old mate.

The vet vet asked how I would like it if she cut my finger off and ranted when I asked if she docks.

I was gobsmacked and said you can't be serious and she got even more angry.

I haven't been back to that place since.
Don't think I would be welcome after my retort anyway.😆

maybe an analogy to having a mastectomy to preclude breast cancers?
ie: Angelina Jolie + some kiwis (apparently).

The early breeders of the HPR and spaniels did not dock for cosmetic reasons, purely for practical. Try convincing the do-gooders of that though.

Cows and lamb tails get the treatment and always will. I fail to see the difference. Something that seems to escape the do gooding retards.
What about all the fucked up breeding of pug faced dogs?
Some are so bad they can hardly breath.

Thing is, where aussie and the UK go, we go. It will happen here. A real shame for the heritage of our gundog breeds

the UK has not followed Australia, the latest developments of the scottish vote has see all 'working' and spaniels and HPR breeds is now fully legal for all of the UK.
It has prior put a line in the dirt for show and working lines in england and wales, so it's a great win.
the nz council of docked breeds has once again put into a good fight to retain tail docking for all breeds not just gundogs, but i am pleased NZGTA has put a further strong exemption to MPI to follow the UK example.

The more I read of the NZKC of late the more I honestly believe they are digging their own graves. I usually get a few pages into dog world and end up biffing it in disgust at some new pointless legislation or new fee they are introducing. I wouldn't be surprised if we see them go the way of the dodo one day.

who,d a thunk it was the haggis bashers that would use some commonsence before anyone else.
    country vet???
probably gelds horses and sells docking stuff for farmers tho.
wonder if its the same prat who said dogs cant handle bones at all.
cow tails are not supposed to be docked now as it was done to stop be flicked in the face when milking but lambs are done as it is for the health and wellbeing of the lambs so why not hunting breeds of dogs for the same reason?
true but given a cow could and would shit as piss down every other part of your anatomy I think tail docking was given up and restricted to to only cows with exceedingly long broken or injured tails, thus it being considered as shutting the stable door......... with all the other crap they can do and on you
nothing quite so altruistic berger243 mainly its done to cut down on shearing and crutching hassles but it does lessen dag carriage and blow fly strike in the bum region as a happy extra.
plus fat tails cooked on a bit of corrugated iron are bloody tasty not to mention mountain oyters
now if we did that auzzie mulesing crap that is some heinous shit and they were against it id agree given there are chemical methods to fix the reasons they do it
