Pheasants for practice retrieving

Hi All, quick one.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get few dead roosters for retrieving practice? if so, drop me a PM.

I cannot help you, Pete, the oven is asking about roosters too :)

Most just start them with pigeons ,then no trouble to go to Roosters.
It's just all about finding and retrieving is it:)

Pigeons retrieve is fine, I seem to have a regular supply of those.

Pheasants - will need few to do some practice over the summer...

just feed my dogs my only pheasant in the freezer --hey ate the lot

I had about 20 in my freezer for summer training, you'd have been welcome to a couple, alas the thing was unplugged... what an enjoyable job that was after it took 2 weeks for us to realise.

if theyre anything like maori rotten corn you should have a feeeeedddd bro

A mate offered to help, that had a spare...
I have good supply of homers for now, but roosters were more for the refinement before the trialing season starts... not a biggie...

I would of thought 1 would be enough ,used frozen & put back into the freezer after each training session ?
As long as the session isn't too long the rooster won't thaw much & the scent is still there .
I have only ever trained with a frozen duck,lot easier to get hold of .

A frozen bird...poor dog:D:D

From what I've experienced, you can use a pheasant number of times but once its covered with saliva and the wings start to fall-of from the trowing around (before the dog retrieves it) it looses the effect.
The only use it may have thereafter is for practice in carrying heavier weight (compared to a pigeon)...

The dog's behavior changes when you give him a fresh (unused) pheasant , as oppose to an already used one which he's retrieved over number of times.
They are smart enough to know what is what...

Yep the best of them are only good for half a dozen or so retrieves. After that you invite mouth issues.
