Oh crickey, El B, competition?...does the dog actually know he's competing...he sure as heck will when he is up against some wily old campaign veteran rooster...how about running your dog up on the high country after chukar...if he isnt pushed there he never will be...I am not against people running their dogs in competitions, in fact I think it is kind of fun, but to say that a hunting dog is never pushed, never at his limit, etc unless he is in a competition just does not make sense...if his owner is prepared to do the yards behind him, the hunting dog is tested every hunt...and if that hunting dog has a profound prey drive, he is pulled to his limit...
edited to add...and his runs are not going to be 15 minutes...they will last as long as you and him can walk!!
