Hi guys
Max my 5 year old GWP had an op 10 days ago to remove a tumour from her foot. Wound not healing, she has picked up some bloody superbug.
She is on antibiotics, probably starting a new and high dose tomorrow, she gets saline washes 2 x a day as well as topical cream with antibiotics
Looking for any other things I can do...Manuka honey maybe?
Back to vet tomorrow so if you have any tips will be running past them as well

See if you can find Condy's Crystals (Potassium permanganate)...a decent pharmacy should have some...
when I had the super bug at the end of last year I was on a pic line for 3 months probably a bit impractical for a dog it was that or die theres some alterntitive stuff out there turmeric and colloidal silver come to mind you will need something to kill bacteria as its a bacteria infection

Def go for the manuka honey. Use the highest UMF you can find. Expensive but more cost effective than other options. Had one of the boys beef calves hit a gate at warp nine due to fireworks. Opened up his shoulder wide enough to fit a hand inside. Cleaned and debraded it had the vet stitch it up leaving a drain. Massive dose of anitbiotics and the wound wouldnt dry and heal. Used honey daily ....till the sod got a taste for it and the scar diminished to about a thumbnail size. Sold him as prime beef so well worth the effort.
Dino, if you want to do the honey thing let me know, the Mrs works at comvita and I'm sure I have some UMF +26 or someshit in the cupboard. Its fucking insanely expensive at the shops. I can try and get it either free or cheap and send some down.

Components of Manuka Honey
Hydrogen peroxide is a component of honey. It gives most honey its antibiotic quality. But some types of honey, including manuka honey, also have other components with antibacterial qualities.
Another antibacterial component in manuka honey is methylglyoxal (MG). MG is a compound found in most types of honey, but usually only in small quantities.

The UMF rating is thought to correspond with the concentration of MG and other compounds. Not all honey labeled as manuka honey contains significant levels of antibacterial factors. To be considered potent enough to be therapeutic, manuka honey needs a minimum rating of 10 UMF. Honey at or above that level is marketed as "UMF Manuka Honey" or "Active Manuka Honey."

Actually vet was supportive of the Honey, so will give it a crack
Starting high dose antibiotics today so hopefully will see an improvement in 48 hours
Dog will definitely owe me a few deer for all the friggin vet bills!
