    Bleeding ears on GSP

Noticed our GSP X has for crusty tips on her ears that are looking raw. Thought it was from a run in with a bad tempered foxy last week but doesn’t seem to be getting better so thinking it might be something else. Doesn’t help that she helicopter ears and whacks them around a fair bit! Prob do a run to the vet tomorrow but anyone else had this?

maybe flystrike, seen that before on short haired dog,raw and bloody round the edges of his ears.
disinfectant and some cream from the vet eventually cleared it up

As above fly bites, no uncommon some dogs are more susceptible than others.

Grass seed or object in the actual ear more than likely

Biting flies used to give one of my dogs hell.
Running through blackberry or bush lawyer gave the edges of his ears a hiding too.

    Do the ears smell?
ie the inside? If yes then an inner ear infection or mites grass seeds....you would notice grass seeds as they are usually very painful for the dog.
Tips of ears sounds more likely to be from external damage. Blackberry bush lawyer etc.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

thanks for all the suggestions, vets assessment was it was likely a reaction to sandflys or mozzies from a recent trip over xmas up Nelson way with some blackberry rips for good measure. Course of antibiotics and lidocaine ointment to help them heal and instructions to keep her pretty calm for the next week or two. Risk is because they are at the end of the capillary system healing can be slow and worst case they might have to trim back the cartilage and stitch the skin back together. Doesn't seem to bother her but but good to know. Sounds like I might need to deet up her ears when in sandfly county next.

Wandering Jew is a cunt. My dog suffers majorly from any contact with it and unfortunately it is everywhere near Hokitika riverbed and tailings.
Can't take him for a run anywhere local and no matter how careful you try to be you either forget or he gets into it somewhere random. Vets fucking love him coz he pays for their holidays.

greedy assholes tried to charge me bout 20 buks for four polaramine tablets to stop my boy itching
went to the chemist got 20 ofthe same 2.5 miligraM tabs FOR less than that.
when little oscar had the meanest cut of them all the vets tried to grift a heart check and blood group test cos his heart rate was elevated.
i said ''course its elevated he see,ing more people to play with and lick today than he see,s in a year''

Yup. I have come to despise our local vets. I know exactly what is wrong when I take my dog in and they act like its the first time they have seen him. For antibiotics and prednazone? (Steroid) and the consult I get little change out of 300 bucks.
They won't let me get a script as it is somewhat reoccurring. They're just thieves as they have no competition.

Going to try that. Our older EP suffers badly from the Bloody Wandering Jew. Some of our other EP's escape the weakness.
