Catahoulas
Its been 3 years since my GSP departed and im on the hunt for a new pup.
A breed thats caught my interest is the Catahoula but i know very little about them.
Does anyone here have one as a deer hound?
Are they a calm and quiet or full on?
Any traits to be aware of, look out for?
Cheers

I dont think they were bred for indicating if that is what you are asking. Are you wanting a dog that sneaks in and points?

At this stage I'm more just trying to find out what sort of temperament this breed has, if they're naturally highly strung or relaxed.
Cheers

They are a great hunting mut. I call mine a velcro dog because she wants to be right next to me the whole time, she wants to sit in my lap when I am glassing!
They are high energy, very stubborn, mischievous, think with their stomach, need lots of exercise. Has been a lot harder to train than my last dog but she is starting to come right at 9 months. The first 4 or 5 months I was thinking why didn't I buy another mastiff x.
I think most dogs a natural hunters and it all depends what you want in a dog.
We are on a rural property so has plenty of space. If you are on a small section it would need to be fenced. Take a look at the American FB group to see more characteristics of them. Attachment 129886Attachment 129887
