It would seem I'm getting forgetful in my old age and repeating myself:O_O:
Tried a few different brands recommended by breeders and vets when I got my 2 GWP's pups.
All made my dogs vomit and have the runs, and they struggled to gain healthy weight while growing.
A greyhound racer gave me some Coprice working dog feed to try when they were about 1yr old and my mutts had no issues. So I have continued to give them it.
I go through a 25kg bag approx every 3 1/2 weeks. They are very energetic and need the extra energy in their food.
They're now nearly 4yrs old. Possibly slightly heavier than they should be but still healthy. Vet always comments how good they look.
I only give them 3 small cups a day. 1 in the morning and 2 at night. But when I give them any leftovers or other supplemental food I knock the dry stuff back.
Dogs are no chicken. Cheap foods mostly have cereal products as the main ingrediënt. Quality, more expensive foods mosty have animal products as main ingredients. I agree that price also is a factor. Once you have to feed 4/5/10 adult dogs the very expensive dry food is just not possible.
Quality of the food is best judged behind the dog. With some cheap foods, more comes out than goes in. With quality food there is very little waste (droppings) .
Yep at 4-6 dogs straight royal canin isn't an option. Luckily I have a good supermarket butcher nearby who gives me trim and expired stock at $1.50 a kg which spreads out the dry food nicely. That plus royal canin means I feed 5 dogs at 15 dollars a week on average
we get it at the breeders rate delivered to our door, in the off season we use a different feed, 50/50 with raw.
Same here. I wouldn't buy royal canin if it wasn't for the pro shop prices
Update time.
Eukanuba and a few months and he looks great.
Yes a lot more expensive but hey I'm not eating junk so why should he

I tried this after hearing about it so much here.
Never again. After a week it was still running out of the team. A couple of days I would expect, diet change and all that. But not a week! About the worst I've ever seen their turds, poor buggers.
I'm finding the Pal stuff the sweet spot at the moment when they are on dry food, from the stock agents it has a good price point and they are all doing well on it.
Mine do well on orijen not cheap though, trying to fatten pup uo at the moment so he's guna be on something different

We have ditched the Coprice too - now on a dry biscuit similar to tux but higher in protein and fat, plus lamb mince.
Jet jumped through an eight wire and busted his cruciate so was crated pretty much an entire two weeks and has fattened up nicely!
Knee recovering slowly now (huge muscle loss) we are 4 1/2 weeks since surgery.

I found my working dog Lab was always thirsty when I fed him Coprice, mentioned it to a farmer mate and he said his farm dogs were the same so he hasn't been back. I also found it went through their system bloody quick too
Been buying Might Mix biscuits and the dogs love them.
He's gone through a lot with me this dog - earthquakes, seven flat moves in two years following the shakes, my depression post army/during injury, my move up north then up north-er... I wouldn't like him to test it but the figure would probably have to be a bit higher for me to consider anything else other than paying it. :)
