veitnamcam, Munsey, ebf and 2 others like this.
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

Training a gun dog takes years, most people aren't going to want to part with a dog they've put years of work into. I have spoken to a dog breeder in Aus that uses Wirehairs and he charges $10-20k for a fully trained one.
You're probably just going to have to get a pup and do the hard yards.

I'd be surprised if you can get a fully trained dog , unlike pig dogs a deer dog pup can't be thrown in with older dogs and would have to be trained individually . So BH would be on the money with 10 or 20 k would be realistic if they where available

Keep an eye on trademe you do see the odd one come up, usually someone heading overseas, and they often only want a grand or so.

Not discounting Stug as he is on the money but one big thing to watch out for in a cheap "trained" dog is that there's a good chance you're just buying someone else's problem.
I know a bloke that thought he was doing stellar scoring a "working" GWP bitch for $500. It's the most useless fucking thing I've ever seen, I'd sooner hunt over a shitzu.

But I'm no dog expert these are just my opinions, one hunter to another.
