you show picture of Tilly girl ANYWHERE and she is welcome and fits right in Mate.....
All good @Tahr and tilly Bo and I don't mind seeing working/hunting dogs.I see enough lap dogs walking the track at work.
Bo had his first possom hunt tonight.
Attachment 90457
Bo comes in the house after I take him for a late night walk,or training session.Tonight was stock training and Buddy sorted him out with a head butt.
Attachment 90586Attachment 90587
Back at the house for cuddles and play.
Attachment 90588Attachment 90589
I would need a cuddle after a Head butt from Buddy too !!!
its not him holding it but it holding him:O_O:
my elvis got one on his face at 9 months never touched one again till he was 18 months.
but by jesus he,d developed a hate and method by then the bastard.
he.d grab them behind the shoulder then shake the crap out of them and beat them against the ground, trees, anything
.they didnt need plucking by the time he finished.
it must have festerd in his mind cos to my knowledge he didnt get any practise in between possums.
Geez Dundee...you just got a cross between an insinkerator and an industrial vacuum cleaner...just watch your pack weight go up on those multi day trips eh worse than feeding a teenager....!!
But well done they are just so loyal can be taught anything usually quickly...Cheers mate
Grabbed a frozen duck out of the freezer for some lessons with the old .22 to add gun fire to the retrieve.Attachment 91339Attachment 91340
So you shot it. Then the lab retrieves? Is this part of your gun acclimatization bit?

given elvis was a Gsp xrotty and built like the proverbial shithouse that jacko was goneburger before he was even dead! bit like a human vs a bullelephant whose got PMTand a basd attitude!
youre dead right though .40yr ago had a mate here on the coast whose foxys specialty was in the burrow scraps&kills .that bugga was an absolute master till one day he came up again an old pissed off buck jacko who vent his spleen&fury on foxys face costing the dog an eye.Humans are not immune either -had a nasty old female in a trap ripmy finger open with a back claw strike once -hurt like f...........

better get out there quick and get another few as not much season left.
Maybe shoot a puk
We had a golden lad when I was a kid, called “Chief”. He hated them too. He would just grab them by the guts and start chewing till he came out the other side :XD: the old possum would be going to town on his face till he got to something vital. Bit bloody gruesome but effective! If we treeied one we would full it full of lead from the bsa air gun till it feel out from the weight of it, then introduce them to Cheif:thumbsup: In saying all that I’ve seen him run past possums to get to ducks. He seemed to know when too and when not to. Lucky I guess.
Night time training on the dummy with a bit of gun fire added.

Another night training mission.Home late from work, the lad had my quad.Took Bo up the road for a walk and "Sit,Stay" was tonights lessons.Got him sitting and staying up to 80 metres away.Bit hard to see the black boy can just make out his eyes.:)Attachment 91762Attachment 91763
good stuff,we taught sit stay at food time......the drool can get a tad embarassing but it sure worksLOL.
Daylight training today.Managed a few retrieves under gun fire.
Attachment 91856
Then sit/stay training.
Attachment 91857Attachment 91858Attachment 91859Attachment 91860Attachment 91861Attachment 91862
Got him out to 200 metres will "range finder" the distance tomorrow.:)

just a thought here bud.....DONT call dog off a long sit....go and get him off it....that way the dog will wait till you get back to it before moving resisting temptation to break un asked.
my old bitch was very good at waiting for food....backfired one christmas morning, sat poor Buttons on lawn, put her dog roll a couple of meters away, told her to sit then got busy and forgot...went to mum in laws for lunch and luckily got sent home for someplurrything....buttons was still sitting waiting 3 hours later, she was ever so grateful Id come home.
Mickey I have trained 3 pure bred labs in my 46 yrs.The first one was Sambo nah i'm not racist but love working black labs..Sambo was in in a kennel outside my sleep out on a farm I was working on.I fell asleep and poor Sambo was still sitting waiting in the morn for the command to eat.:wtfsmilie:
sambo and nigger were both common names for big black dogs a few years back....this P.C. world has gone crazy.
I wanted to call Meg a diferent name but my wife said no....payback would be a perfect name for her I thought.....she pays me back for what we do for her....she pays back the deer for eluding me in the past and best of all when dumb people say "oh hes a nice dog" I could reply "paybacks a bitch" and walk away leaving them confused.
Had a cockatoo named sambo and a black pig named niglet
Not much to see with the black boy tonight,on the quad then a ride in the ute:)

Are you teaching him hand signals as silent commands at the same time ?. You are certainly doing a great job with him. It is amazing what you have achieved so far !!
Thanks @Moa Hunter no silent signals yet just voice commands and whistle.
Tonight a frozen duck came out of the freezer for a few retrieves.
Attachment 92111Attachment 92112
I reckon his retrieving is awesome, all that breast meat not touched.:) More work tomorrow and going to make things a bit harder in the training.
Should see if he can carry a egg in his mouth used to be the party trick with my lab till one day he dropped it and realised what was inside was eatable
Bo has had a week off retrieving but was bloody good tonight on the magpie.

Bo retrieved his first two hares today with my .22 lr rifle the killing weopon. Super proud of his progress as he was a little timid under the shotgun the second week I had him.
Attachment 93829Attachment 93830Attachment 93831Attachment 93832Attachment 93833
He had to work a bit harder for the second hare as it fell into the creek.

@Dundee, does Bo show any signs of a natural indicate behaviour? Are you wanting him to indicate and retrieve, or just retrieve?
I’ve been reading about the pointing American black labradors and the debate as to whether the pointing is a defect or a superior trait. Seems like it’s one of those things that gets the hackles up amongst the Labrador experts.
Me and the wife have been reading up on our hunting breeds. We’ve been very taken with American labs. But I really need a dog that will indicate. Early days yet... lots more research to do.
