If you have badly allergic dogs

As some of you will know we have a couple of Pointers, they have always had allergy issues and over last 5 years have steadily go wore and worse to the point of scratching and chewing constantly. We have tried using different diets, The dogs live on prednisone. we have also tried Acopril which didn;t really do much apart from lighten our wallets @ 10 bucks a day.

So today our new vet suggested we try a new injection treatment called Cytopoint. Well we gave it a nudge with one dog and 4 hours later we seem to have a normal non scratchy dog and calmness reigns at home instead of the constant sound of scratching and chewing

We are hoping to try one dog for a month (single injection lasts this long) and hopefully we can let her skin heal and maybe do the other one the next month. then month about or as required.

Cost for our 30kg pointer is approx $200 a treatment.

I know some/most of you will say a bullet is cheaper but thats not me,

Anyway if you are in a similar situation to us ask your vet about this it might work for you too.

Show Breeders have a lot to answer for, the breeder of our dogs says her dogs have no issues but then they are never off concrete pads/kennels
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

we had similar issues and due to people in household having issues we tried gluten free diet for the dog and BUGGAMESIDEWAYS it worked!!!!!! we got tame butcher to make us dog rolls with cornflour as binder not wheat flour and he coulnt add bread or bran shite so more meat went in...well all meat really. double bonus, fed less per day and no itchy scratchy dog....might be worth a crack as it cost us stuff all to do.

Dogs are fed only meat now, and have been for past 6 months with no change. Personally I think its a bred in thing.

I would say the living environment has more to do with it rather than genetics, carpet/heat pump and or fire does not leave much use for a coat let alone the natural release of oil which would explain constant licking.
diet, while raw has been the catchy diet for along time I am still not convinced it can provide the balance and I have read a lot of health issues are being reported @ vets, all dogs are different and some seem to do well on it....we try and feed a 50/50 diet..meats cheaper than the dry.......30kgs is fat for a pointer ?
if they are on the carpet then dust mites may be an issue, the vet will advise against it but ivomec does work.
have they done a scrapping of the skin ?

Yep been there and done most of that, Carpet was replaced in entire house. Its environment related , pollen is my best guess.

Our wirehair was starting to struggle with ear inflammations. The winning clue was her chewing her toes...something she has always done without hurting herself. I eliminated a plant that resembles Wandering Jew and I haven't had to medicate her ears in months...pretty relieved...I thought we were losing her.
