    Looking for a dog

Hey team, well after loosing my Fern dog to illness 12 months ago I feel its time to look for another deer dog....
Fern was a Vizsla and was amazing in the bush...this may be hard to replicate.

What im looking for is to see if anyone is looking to rehome an already hunting dog between 12 months and 3 years of age, would consider a farm dog not interested in stock. I would like a bitch, spayed if possible and also toilet trained as they will be an inside pet also.

Happy to consider most breeds but preference in order below.

    Heading Dog
    Heading x Viz or GSP
    Viz
    GSP

Live in the Wairarapa and hunt most weekends so something close by for easy viewing although I do travel from New Plymouth, Taupo and Gisborne to Wellington so anywhere in between could work.

A smaller stature dog would be great.

Don't want anyone's rejects that end up needing a one way trip to the bush....

Please send me a PM if you have anything

    Cheers Hamish

Second the above. I think I saw a post of a GSP that was pounded recently, so that might be one to keep an eye on.

We got our female GSP of there and she was two years old. Obviously takes a lot more work when they've already learned certain habits, but she's an incredible dog all the same!

Have you considered a retired heading dog?
And I don't mean old and broken down, just getting on and can't handle big days on big hills and would otherwise get a home on a small block.
I have one which my daughter got as a pup and used until she started travelling. She farmed him out to a shepherd mate, and when he started slowing down I got him back.
Usually retired heading dogs are under exceptional control.
Walking around hunting is an easy life compared to what they are used to.
You would probably get another three or four years out of one.

@HNTMAD, on the Facebook page GSP Antics (NZ) there is a nice looking GSP male up for adoption that is located in Palmerston North, if you are looking for something. Sounds like they've done lots of basic training with him, but he comes with some reactivity issues, so might be worth a chat about that first.....

Let us know how you get on with finding a dog :-)

@HNTMAD Happy to provide the correct order as follows:

    1. Vizsla or GSP or combo of both for the win
    2. Anything else
