I’ve talked about Shelby’s nature but not my own, I’ve always been well on the side of let my dog be a dog but I can see the problems that can arise from that approach. I’ll do the best I can to be more in control. Shelby is the first dog I’ve tried to use as a tool rather than simply as a pet and companion.
Ok I can hear that.... My big black bitches are pets,companions too mate.hell I got home at 07:00 yesterday and my big ferocious hunting dogs weren't in Thier kennels...oh no,they were inside house on my side of the bed!!!!! You CAN have it both ways but need to be the boss and keep dog under control until animal is down...hell they can run around doing zoomies and chase butterflies while you trudge home under a heavy load,it doesn't matter then. I've always said if you can keep your dog at heel,quiet and it has rock solid no bullshit sit and come back here commands,you can successfully take them anywhere to do anything. Those two simply commands allow you to keep them safe too. A bit like walking to the ruakapuka store for an ice cream with the kids.they can run ahead going through the park but by golly they will be kept close to you withing grabbing distance crossing that busy road.
Most people fall into this category to be fair mate. And at the end of the day you can do things the way you like or think is best. It sure is rewarding when you start getting results from hard work learning how to train the dog and the dog then performing the things you want.Quote:

Dog nearly got shot one video in the follow up shot on the animal all because its not steady to the shot and wont sit still in one place when told to. Made me wince.
Certainly no expert or perfect myself that’s for sure.
