Unfortunate that you're crap at people portraits. Imagine this...Nanai Mahutu against a backdrop of a NZ Bird, a Tui for instance, with a waka in the distance.
Geez @outlander ... I didn't say I was crap at drawing people ... just don't really want to . I find drawing people uninspiring . Even as a young fella in art at school we had to go to a park and draw a portrait of our partner for the lesson sitting on a park bench . I drew the concrete tubular rubbish bin next to the end of the bench instead , had patches of moss/lichen on it and some interesting cracks in the concrete along with a moth perched on the edge of the rim.
My art teacher wasn't happy.... but admitted I did a pretty good job of it
didn't make me draw any more people after that lol

What sort of size is the 'average' portrait? They look great.
Hi @Kimber 7mm-08...
As gonetropo said I generally use a3 size so can do the drawing large enough to get some details in there. I have a photo of the tropo's nearly finished (still missing body) drawing here showing page size... A sheet of printer paper over the drawing would have just covered the drawing itself I would think....
I left plenty of room around the edges so could be trimmed to correct size for framing , and allow more choices of frame.
And they look better from a bit of a distance as the dots fade into each other more.

Hi @bunji .... Yes he did. The fantail I drew for him as a thank you as he was going to display some of my drawings in his gallery and promote them and my leather work. So I now put a copy of the fantail in with any drawings requested to spread the love as it were. I think he would have liked that. The sheath below I made for him also .... He was a lover of the kowhai flowers which is why they feature in the drawing and on the sheath....
It was a very sad day when he passed .... RIP
