Tyou only need the last reason, the others are just a bonus.
Don't forget food tester and dishwasher.
They can make a fair pillow on occasion too.
Great for conversation when you don't feel like talking.
why i have a dog:
costs a lot
likes the mrs
cheaper than kids
apart from that "mouse" is useless.
still wont get rid of her though, but hell i miss my last dog
i should point out why i sometimes like "mouse" . being a border collie x she is intelligent and exploits the fact
so wife take her to dog school, she learns sit, stay, down etc.
i taught her on the word "centrefold" to lay on her back with all four legs spread. and now if she wants a treat biscuit she just does it.
end of the day i kinda like her, smallest dog i have ever owned, first female i ever owned.
its an experience to be sure
I own a dog because life is just somehow poorer without one.
Own 2 then you have 2 friends. Dogs are a synonym*for companionship and mental health experts.
Someone sent me this, Sums it up pretty well....................at least for me.
JUST A DOG
From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog,”
or “that’s a lot of money for just a dog.”
They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent,
or the costs involved for “just a dog.”
Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.”
Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,”
but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by
“just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch
of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you probably understand
phrases like “just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.”
“Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship,
trust, and pure unbridled joy.
“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience
that make me a better person.
Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look
longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog”
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts
away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that its’ not “just a dog”
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being
“just a man” or “just a woman.”
So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog,”
just smile, because they “just don’t understand.”

The most excellent hunting companion....
Something to blame the farts on
And cool to see how they can get so excited about the simplest things in life
dogs are better than girlfriends. lock them both in a car boot for 10 minutes and see which one is happy to see you when the lid opens.
Couldn't imagine life without a dog. Constant companion in everything we do. Comes hunting and will find deer and do good cadaver work. Comes on the farm and helps with little bits and bobs and is as good as an extra set of hands. Sucks up crumbs from the kitchen floor. Sleeps outside the bedroom door and tells us if anyone is around. Good for a chat, best listeners in the world.
All of the above.
And to get back to @Tahr's original post, one of my previous pointers tracked a deer I wounded (shot it in the bum was facing away from me and pulled the shot, total cockup). Ran away, missed my mate said so we carried on but a nagging feeling I had hit it so went back to look.
Dog got a little interested and I found a single spec of blood on a leaf, and long story short 4 1/2 hours later she led me to a very mobile 3 legged deer and I finished the job.
She earnt her biscuits that night!!
Sadly old age caught up with my "baby girl" and she departed this life last year

This is a true story. Back country hut.Hunter there with dog on bottom bunk. Loopies came in and started to roundly abuse hunter about dog in hut. Late at night. Pause in the ranting of the loopies. All you could hear was a round being chambered. Deadly quiet. Next you heard was sound of disappearing footsteps out the hut door. In the morning gentle smile on the dudes face. We were leaving with plenty of meat and just cracked up when we got far enough away from the hut.
Bella did a neat thing yesterday. I fluffed a standing shot at 100 yards and hit a fallow spiker through the third rib. The sound and sight picture gave me a sinking feeling. It was in quite thick messy bush. Bella quickly picked up the scent and I followed her up a ridge and then she ducked over the side and disappeared. Then some barks. Then she came back. I headed for where she had been barking and she disappeared ahead again. I heard one growl. After about 80 yards there she was laying quietly next to a very alive but immobile deer. I quickly dispatched it. She had tracked about 200 yards and I only saw one small bit of blood. Good Bella! She is 22 months.

What projectile is Bella using? LOL. Looks dead.
I think she scared it to death :)
Go Bella :D
I love her tiger stripes in that last pic. Might just be a trick of the light Or Tahr has sent her to the hairdresser to get highlights :XD:
As my dog, Izzie has now aged to where she has spent her last day on a hill with me -the question of Why have a dog? Really tugs at my heart strings.
I look at her as I grab the gear to go bush and she knows where I'm going and still gets excitited, but her old hips can't lift her from her bed like they use to but the brightness in her eys still says she is willing. I realise that like the poem "Just a dog". Thats all she is, a dog. But she has been the best friend, listener, hunting mate that I've ever had.

Just a dog
This was cool. Last evening.
Spiker was slowly moving through fairly thick scrub. 275 yard shot across a gully right on dark. I heard the hit and it bolted and dissapeared.
Got over there in the dark and couldn't find the land marks I had in mind, but eventually thought I was in the right area 'cos the dog was showing a bit of interest in some ground scent. So I put Bella on a tracking line and asked her to find. She calmly led me around the scrub face for about 20 yards and then started tracking hard (wanting to pull me along :) ). After about another 20 yards she found the heart shot deer. Mostly obscured. Not a long track, but I would have never found it by myself.
I was tickled pink.

She is doing great..you have done right by her . Love how you have let her natural ability come out and just given it the minimal tweaking to fit your needs. Truely a good master.
@Micky Duck This was her yesterday too. Finding a little Fallow doe. It looks a long way but she's only about 30 yards or so from me at the end.
