are they part of new appliances or something that'll be rolled out once the green light button is pressed? We are supposed to be getting a brand new appliance this month so wondering if it'll have one as standard.

Not likely
Some brigades have done their own setups.
you will need to buy your own smartphone to run the tablet
We had iauditor, but have gone back to paper for gear checks.
Tablet is now used for our risk plans.
We have another tablet up front for Active911. It works a treat. Although saying that, the big storm we had about a month ago, we never got any through on it....
Hydrant locations on it helps heaps.

Give this link a go. This is how other members of my brigade signed up. You need to use your fire service email otherwise they won't accept it. One way to guarantee that you are in NZFS. If you can't find your appliance number on the list, PM me and i'll check it on my phone. Eg. Mercer isn't on the list on that page, but they are on Active911, and I can get turnouts for them, if I want. I can only check appliances in region 1 however.
From the turnout, you can go straight to Google/Apple maps for directions, or to another maps page to see all the hydrants. If you don't have hydrants in your area, you are probably just better getting Firecomm to text you the TXT that you would usually get on the page.

Apparently the fire in the Ripia area of the kawekas is still going so there are 4 fires here that I know of :(
Ah bugger that sucks.
It will be interesting to see this new system you speak of. Looking forward to it..

A K41-1 at the Port Hills fire after chopper crash.
Condolences to all down there
Very sad, wish that shit didn't happen

Taking 12 of my rural fire crew to the CHCH Port Hills fires for the next few days as relief crews.
Keen to get them up there for the experience, but not looking forward to what we might find on such a vast and complicated fire ground.
Certainly know I will need a beer afterwards.
Its been fairly windy in Akaroa today so I expect they won't have got it that much more under control.
Wind was so strong here that the fire passed the fire truck while driving along the road.......
That's some scary shit
