Our unit is likely the lowest tech there is as zero mains electricity at our remote location (closest is 10km away). Apparently it well confused the equipment supply guys at FENZ when our crew chief told them the TV they supplied for for unit training videos was useless. There's now off grid solar being installed :-)

I did three years as a volly in Stoke, Nelson while Kerry Ferris was chief (RIP). Good times, saw a few big structural fires in my time there.
There shall, in that time, be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock.

Thanks for the offer, if you keep dropping into the FENZ webpage there are projects in place for people who don't want or aren't able to be operational volunteer firefighters to be able to contribute to their communities in other ways and roles...

If you can't beat them, beat them.
They will be expecting you to join them, so you'll have the element of surprise.

4.5 years in Wairoa whilst doing auto electrical apprenticeship... Cyclone Bola we where on call for two weeks. Averaged 120 calls a year Our area was huge Halfway to Napier and Gisborne. All up to Waikaremoana and the Ruakituri valley.... With the ammonia refrigeration at the freezing works and 4 large LPG storage facilities we had good crews training and gear.... Then I Transferred to a rural brigade top of the south island.... Oh dear! Dads army......

Unfortunately rural were always considered the poor cousins, getting all the ex fire service cast off gear for a buck. Come amalgamation time and FENZ gets them all back...

Good to see some new gear out there, but man trying to get movement in other areas of the outfit is like gambling on tortoise races. Slow moving...

Gidday Team. Nearly 7 years with Ruakaka - Northland. Just moved to Geraldine - Canterbury and will be making inquiries to join here as well. Anyone else in my neck of the woods keen for a beer it'd be great to catch up.
