Wanting to Purchase Fleshing Machine & Others

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble sourcing a Fleshing Machine in New Zealand - I've tried contacting stores in the US and I can't get any response about whether they would post internationally. Does anyone happen to know how to go about this?

Or might someone have one they are wanting to sell? If someone has bulk bits and pieces, tool, chemicals etc they are wanting to sell also please do let me know as I'm setting up a little home workshop

    Thank you everyone

You probably may have already tried these guys in the states?

In the 1970's we made our own for scraping the fat and sinew off possum skins: Made from old workshop motorised hacksaw blades. Heat gently and bend into a half circle, then fix onto a wooden handle of some sort. Scrape over concrete first to blunten any remaining sharp teeth. Worked a treat. Did a lot of skins that way, and a few goat skins too.

Nice, I have a very similar one for doing large hides, has a blade edge though - hope your hide tanning goes well

That's very cool, thanks for sharing How long would it take to flesh out a goat skin?

Shit, I remember caulking new blades into fleshing machines at Borthwicks, with copper caulking. Then sharpening

I flicked them an email and they said they would send to NZ but unfortunately have no stock right now
Thank you for your suggestion, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for when they get stock in

Mckenzie is the best option @buckingbee ,be prepared to be amazed by the cost of shipping My new one just turned up last week.

    Shiny
So much nicer than my old one
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

Wow!! Looks great. How are you liking this model? May I ask what your shipping cost was roughly? 🫣🫣 I figured this was going to be an expensive exercise but will hopefully be a good investment, currently just using scalpels and my carpel tunnel isn’t agreeing with that method!

Yes, for taking the actual flesh off. These machines have a slightly misleading name, you actually shave slices off the hide to reduce thickness.

Sent you a PM @buckingbee about costs. Like this machine a lot, shaving is a lot faster and much more consistent. Should have gone with this one the first time round.
