What do y'all run? What's good and what to avoid?
Got a Bladetech holster for the CZ for IPSC, CR Speed for Speed Steel, RaceMaster mag holders with a 1 magnetic.
And I still shoot like shit :thumbsup:
BladeTech and AA belt from Chris at Competition Guns, CR Speed from GunsNZ, mags from Double Alpha. All have worked ok for me, biggest equipment problem I had at Nats was magazine related :-(
DAA Race masters for my Multigun and IPSC rig have owned and am selling a Ghost setup nothing wrong with it just wanted the same between disciplines. Always run 3 normal pouches and one magnetic, always up to the individual though :)
My equipment issues at the nats was also magazine related :(
Get some Kydex and make your own :thumbsup:
for IPSC Production, the XD9 and mags go in an Uncle Mike kydex holster, a double mag pouch that came with the XD, and a Blackhawk double mag pouch.
for IPSC Metallic, the Tanfoglio and mags go in a Safariland holster and a couple of pre-loved Hellweg leather double mag pouches. i'm told i can wear a race holster for Metallic class but i like the challenge and romance of drawing from a Production class holster.
I'm just going to write about what I don't like about the cr speed and daa pouches because they do everything else you can expect from a pouch anyway.
Cr speed:
Takes up too much real estate between the inner and outer belt, seriously, you have this smallish pouch and this huge f*ckn mounting bracket that it joins onto (not as bad as a tek lok) If you have 3 of these pouches together then don't count on your inner belt contacting the velcro for about 6 1/2" its probably OK for those that have a huge waist but I don't, and I can have up to 80 rounds hanging off that 6" without anything keeping it fixed and it sags . I fixed the issue by glueing Velcro to the pouch, now its solid as.
Can't fix the pouch to the belt in a "bullets out" configuration like the daa. I don't shoot this way so it doesn't worry me, but some do.
To change your pouch spacer for different mag sizes, you need to undo the nut that holds the pouch onto the bracket meaning you have to reorientate the pouch to your correct angle when you do it up again. No biggy but not as efficient as the daa.
DAA:
Pouch sits too far out from the waist. It might suit the guy with their guts hanging over their belt but if you're built like a rake then it can be annoying. And if you turn it bullets out then it "seems" to double its distance. Just a personal preference thing really.
Pouch itself takes up more room on outside of belt than a cr speed. User preference.
If you want to move the pouch then you have to get the Allen keys out. Sure, it locks down tight but if you're wanting to shift pouches around then its a pain in the arse to move unlike the cr speed which can be slid on and off the belt without tools. User preference again.
I had a bladetech doh for my shadow but after a multigun match running around with a holstered pistol It felt like the dam thing was going to fly out the holster. Havnt had that issue with the daa race master, once its locked its locked. personal preference again.
They are all much of a muchness. Have a play with peoples gear. If I had to set up a belt again I would go with Cr speed pouches and daa racer/master holster. YMMV.
Buy the stuff from overseas, its way cheaper.
Currently running Double alpha for everything. The daa belts are a lot stiffer than the CR speed ones which is good, I used my old CR belt the other day and felt like i was going to rip my belt off just drawing the gun.
Holster, if I was buying new now I would get one of the DAA alpha X, judging from the ones I've seen they are a Racemaster that has been made better.
I use the Racer mag pouches, in my opinion the racemasters aren't worth the extra cost. The mags seem to slide better out of the plastic than the alloy.
Spring shat itself and failed to feed during one stage, lost a bit of time as it was a short, single mag stage anyway. Disassembled it after and the spring was munted.
Other mag, something went weird and tried to feed 2 rounds at once (maybe mag lips damaged ?) when I dumped the mag it then threw a few extra rounds into the magwell for luck, which I figured out when trying to insert a new mag. Again time lost shaking out rounds, etc. Raining rounds !
I hadnt cleaned / prepped my gear proper for a Nationals comp, so learnt the lesson the hard way.
Bought some kmags for my SV and they usually run flawlessly allowing me to start with 19 or at a stretch 20 in my 40cal Standard :) The issue was that due to the manufacturer pushing the boundaries on tolerance to allow for larger capacity the rounds would some times jam beside each other in the mag tube. The most annoying part was I have tried to replicate the problem at club days and they run perfectly grrrr. Looking at now decreasing the internal spacing by a fraction so no two rounds can wedge together.
The craziest thing was there was three of us in my squad using kmags and we all had issues over the 3 days but never do at club level........
Ans the annoying thing was that is wasn't the same problem for any of us. Mine were giving me double feeds. So after the second time it happened I retired them, which reminds me I must have a look into getting them running right before France.Quote:

My DAA Alpha X has just arrived with new DAA belt, has been on backorder from das for months, but shipped on the 19th, arrived on the 24th which is mind blowing as shipped from the Netherlands.
After playing with it for a few days it really is an awesome holster, just an improvement on the Race master/racer. When locked the pistol doesn't even move slightly, I guess that's the benefit of having specific inserts opposed to the "one size fits all" style of some. Drawing is totally smooth as silk but with the vertical pull with magnetic locking it still feels secure even with the pistol unlocked.
I always liked my Cr speed belt but the daa one seems to fit better, the cr always felt like it always wanted to stay round even after years of use where the DAA conforms nicer while also feeling stiffer.
Usin Cr speed mag pouches, much prefer the plastic ones over any aluminium pouches. I run them inside out so the tension adjuster sticks out, can then adjust the 5mm difference to alternate between my shadow or czechmate. The mounts are too thick like Towely says but maybe I have them apart enough not to find any probs
Can save quite a lot of $$ buying direct from DAA too

2alphashootingsupplies are having a sale on the DAA belts and pouches at the moment. I just got the pro belt for my boy, $61nzd delivered and the DAA race mags are $45nz.
Pretty sharp prices for these at the moment. They are coming from aus but ipsc shooters will know the family that runs it.
