    Ruger SR1911

Hey guys I'm pretty keen to get a 45 and like the look of the Ruger SR1911. Stainless, rose wood grips and a 5 inch barrel.

Anyone have one? How do they compare to other 1911s at that price point? Talking around 2200 new or 1800 second hand. It would be my first 1911, first 45 ACP.

Alternatively the Para 14/45 looks pretty sweet too.

    Cheers

Looks like they've got a couple of tanfoglio witnesses, a custom and two black ones.

They look pretty nice too, might give them a call.

Have an SR1911 that has a nice tight fit compared to my Remington R1 and Tanfoglio Witness. (I caught the 1911 bug. Didn't mean to.)

The R1 has done well as my competition gun, lots of rounds, more abuse than I should admit to, and reliable with minimal maintenance. The SR1911 is so nice and shiny that I've spent more time cooing over it than shooting club matches with it. The Witness is an old base model that's almost as rough as the Norinco clones but I've a soft spot for it, wonky sights and all.

Are the Tanfoglio not that flash? I've all but bought a Witness custom

Be alright for a first 1911?

Hey don’t dis the Norinco clones - I have one which has the sweetest trigger. Rest of it is a bit sharp round the edges but with variable quality control every now and again you get a feature that is above the rest. Mind you dry fired it against the one on the shelf next to it and that was a whole different definition of crap…

They are fine, mine went real good until I got bored with the pistol thing. Had Para 16-40 then STI Edge then STI Open gun...see the theme, 1911 (actually 2011 ) then the Tanfogilio Witness. Of them all the .45 was the most fun.

@Rated M for Magnum: I've a P19 Tanfoglio that's been awesome as an IPSC Standard pistol so I'm not down on the brand. From what I've read, the Tangoglio Witness Custom pistols are put together with more care so should be no problem.
@Baz036: I sit corrected regarding Norinco. The variable QC is scary.
@mikee: Agree .45 is the most fun calibre.

Single stack is for girls. I ran these two Paras, 14/45’s with two round extended bases. They’re sweet shooters and there’s no mistaking the hits or doubt about power factor.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

They look bloody tidy, I'm pretty keen to get a 14/45. I was dead set on an old school 1911 but I don't think it's going to do it for me.

What are parts like to get for the paras?

Should be ok, I started with the 16-40 std gun and it fit the "box" with 20 in the tricked up mags and one up the spout.
Then I just had to have a custom built STI and I really missed the extra 2 shots
Mind you this was 25 years ago.
