Another blow to the shooting community

    Just received this -

The Auckland Shooting Club is now CLOSED

    Hi Everyone,

It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to write this.

The Court of Appeal has just today delivered its decision in respect of the Certificate of Compliance. Our legal counsel was confident that we would get a positive outcome.

However, that is not the case, and the Court of Appeal has ‘set aside’ the Certificate of Compliance, meaning that we no longer have permission to run organised sports on the property.

    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The Auckland Shooting Club now has to CLOSE with immediate effect.

No further shooting by ASC members is permitted on the property. We expect to receive an abatement notice to that effect from Auckland Council in the next few days.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE?

The practical answer here is “No”.

Victoria and I have an Application for Resource Consent with the Auckland Council that cost us around $500,000. We were advised just recently that it was decided that it is to be publicly notified. The cost estimate for this process, should we wish to proceed, is somewhere in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.

Further court actions are unlikely to allow us to open in the near term.

So, an avenue could be for the Club to fund and run the application for resource consent, but the vast uncertainty as to what will happen with firearms law in New Zealand in the term of this government would make this an extremely risky undertaking. However it is an option available to the Club committee and membership.

Victoria and I have put everything we have into the development and running of the Club. It has been a wonderful experience and we would like to thank you all for being members and for your support.

It is an extraordinarily sad day for us.

    Raymond and Victoria.

Sorry to hear that. And that's one less police training venue I suppose.

As if one needed more evidence to show that there is indeed a concerted effort to undermine shooting as a sporting discipline...

    It's almost undisputable now.

Considering that this group of rabid anti-gunners have been harassing the club since its inception, the timing of this alleged incident seems suspiciously convenient...

Crowd fund the costs for the consent.

Actually the interesting point is that they lost the appeal due to non compliance of the earthworks rather than the noise as far as I have read.

    A very sad day indeed.
